Vapor xxx/pencil test results

Recommended Posts

Ok.

past skate. Easton s7 9D

just got vapor xxx's 8.5D

only got them smaller because I got them for 75 bucks and I figured If worse comes to worse I would use the stretcher at work.

Anyways, these things give me TERRIBLE lace bite. I never ever ever once had lace bite issues with my eastons and now this? Everything is great about the boot except for I fail the pencil test on the 3rd top eyelet. I can't even flex my ankle without it hurting, i had to stuff my terry guards in my skates today at stick time because I had no other way to stop the pain.

Anyways... Is this because I have too much foot for too little boot(volume wise)

or is it because I got them in 8.5 ?

your help is always greatly appreciated, thank you!

it wouldnt be the size, as i would definitly size down going from easton to bauer, and usually that half size makes it perfect.

the fact that the vapor XXX is significantly stiffer than the s7, and the fact that you are failing the pencil test are the reason for your lacebite

good news, is that vapor XXX are popular, and im sure the turnaround on selling those wont be too difficult

i dont think id jump right to that conclusion, maybe try it out for a few more skates, then see where you are at

i dont believe there are many solutions for lace bite other than a deeper boot, so give it a few more tries, and see how your skates are feeling

if they arent any better, i dont see any other paths other than selling them

what is a deeper boot? does nike-bauer offer a deeper boot from a different series. i.e. supreme or flexlite

I'm afraid to go back to easton because of the poor quality boots lately. any other companies that offer deeper boots ?

thank you.

if you liked the fit of the s7 from easton, the mission ag series fits quite similar, and is considerably deeper than the easton for sure. Just do keep in mind, the mission boots take a heat fit before they truly fit right. theres a great stiff boot coming out from mission, the AGX, i really like it. The XP fit is going to be the wider of the mission fits, and is deep as well.

the flexlite is deeper, but if that s7 fits nicely, there might be too much room in the forefoot, although there is a nice snug heel on it. The kor boots are very deep as well, and can be fully customized. Another thing you can do is look at a long term investment, such as a graf 709. maybe the width is a bit much, you can still go with the 709 Narrow and still keep all that depth.

hope that helps you out, anything else ill try to help more

yeah id say that would help a lot, when i think about trying to help people with skate fits, i think about the skate wall at the LHS i work at, so i can see all my options in front of me, and ive heard that its one of the largest skate selections in western Canada. so i am lucky when it comes to fitting skates for people.

do your best to fit the heel of the skate first, make sure your heel gets locked in nicely, because the forefoot can be adjusted. you can always post pictures of heel, forefoot, and get fitted, and im sure all the great people here will help you come to a good decision

Do you use wax laces??? Sometimes it is any easy fix. If you are using wax laces just tie the skates like you normally would but at the area where you are getting the lace-bite just keep them a little looser. The skate has a more upright cut in the shape of the boot., it is to help in forward flex so if the skate is tied to tight it is going to increase the pressure on the top of your foot. Just a suggestion

I had the same issue with my XXX's. I put a smal sponge between the tounge and the part of my foot that hurt and i also skipped an eyelet i beleive the forth one down. I noticed no difference with skipping the eyelet that low and the problem was sloved i haven't had the pain since.

Good man sir. Obviously you need some something with more volume.

yeah I heard flexlites might work for me. I'd be nice to decide between easton or nbh since I get both of them for employee discounts. I could also get rbk and mission for discounted i guess

I had lace bite when I had my old skates. I put a dense piece of foam about the size of a baby carrot on each side of my tendon running vertically. Switch to cotton laces and try different lacing patterns. Just a band-aid though. You need a boot with more depth.

I cut can koosies in half and put them in my tongue, but i'd rather have a skate that actually fits correctly then freakin having a half ass job
