ShootsNScores93 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 I recently started using a pair of CCM 952 kevlar tacks.. I was using CCM 552 tacks but wanted a stiffer boot.. plus I wear a size 13 shoe so I have been using a size 12D with socks for years... the 952s are an 11.5 D and I go barefoot in them...I did take the steel from the 452s and put them on the 952s as they are the same 304's for the prolite 3 holder...I played last night and other than the obvious getting used to the feel of the boot.. I felt like I couldnt skate all that well... seemed like I was uncomfortable on turns, quick stops and starts ect and it seemed I had trouble getting explosive strides when skating hard...anyone shed some light on this?? do I just need to get used to the new skates? jeffw 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 It's also possible that multiple sharpenings changed the profile of your old steel.
ShootsNScores93 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 how long does it take to get comfortable with new skates?

ShootsNScores93 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 yeah I figured as much... I just found myself not doing certain things on the ice last night because I wasnt comfortable on my edges like I normally am and I just felt like I had no explosiveness... I guess it will come back with time.... I hope anyway...
greatsave31 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 sometimes when going to a stiffer boot, it takes a little more time to learn how to make the stiffness work for you, rather than you working the skate. if that makes any sense.
ShootsNScores93 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 so basically I shouldnt freak out and just understand that its part of the process right? its been almost 10 years since I have bought new skates... I bought the 552s in 2000 and they felt no different to me than my 652s and I stopped playing until November 2006 and have used them...like I said I also went down a half size because people always said a proper fitting skate your toes brush the toe cap and your heel doesnt slip... and with my old skates my feet always slipped... with the 952s they fit the way I am told they should.... its just tough dealing with not being at the top of my game right from the get go... If I dont play well I tend to dwell on it sadly, no matter what the reason :(
