TPS glove trouble

Recommended Posts

Guest Di Matteo

A Few questions:

I have had two pairs of TPS players gloves. The first pair in not sure what their called, but the second pair is the TPS authentic pro stock gloves (R8). The problem is that these glove give the top of my hand, palms and thumbs a rash, i was wondering if this is just the material that TPS uses or is it all the same?

Also whats another good hockey glove company that I could switch to that would be good for a defencemen?

How do you customize gloves?

And finally what do you guys think of the t'blades?

To customize gloves, you need to contact the company or use their online customizer, like MIA or Eagle.

T'blades are good if they are easily and readily available, and if they aren't, stick to the holders you have now.

T blades are great and they really do stay sharp a long long time. I mounted them on my Grafs...and loved the way they performed. I just didn't like the grafs, therefore they made it to the for sale forum :)

T-Blades are recommended for people that can't get a good, consistent sharpening -- so using those replaceable blades are the next best thing.

Asking if T-Blades are for defensemen is like asking if toe curves are only for forwards.

So they wont break if you stop a slapshot coming around the boards?

How long will the blade last (the sharpening)?

How much are they, and when you need a new blade how much are they? (In ontario or around buffalo new york)

Order replacement runners offline for 15 bucks a pair...they last 5 times as long as a skate sharpening. With living in Ontario/Western NY, you should be able to get a consistent sharpening, although last time I skated up there I saw many people using them anyways. I bought them because good sharpening is hard to find here in Florida. They are relatively durable, and I have taken some hard shots to them, and I stop pucks around the boards all the time

Where in Ontario are you? I'm in Mississauga, usually find them for 20 a pair, but I heard you can get two pairs for 30 at Sports Unlimited in Brampton.

i dont know about in canada, but i got mine at the local shop for $88usd. extra blades are $15 per pair, and you have options for radius and hollow... i ordered an extra pair in a different radius/hollow just to compare the two. neither pair show any real wear or damage and they're both sharp as hell. probably played 6-8 games on each. i've also taken some really hard shots with the holders (i play defense). they're also really loud... they make the same crunching sound as any blade on ice, just twice as loud. you wont be sneaking up on anyone.

more importantly, i had the same rash from my R8's. after i used them the first time, i washed that inside panel with hot water and detergent and it went away. i think it may have been leftover chemicals used making the gloves?

if they sold t blades in a normal looking holder id buy a bunch. id rather take my chances on sharpening than wear those ugly things

Now there's a true MSH'er - it is better to look good than to feel good. :D

Thanks everyone. I have decided that I'm not going to get t'blades, Also I'm not going with tps gloves ever again. I'm going to get my gloves customize from now on. Any recommendations for a company that I could go with for my gloves (to customize)? Also how much would they cost?

thanks again!

try washing the inside panels of the R8 gloves before you blow $150 on custom gloves. why would you even need custom gloves anyway? if you still have the rash after washing them, contact fixitbymail and have them replace the material inside the gloves where you're getting the rash. that would probably be a very cheap job.

Do they accept stuff from Canada?

yes. they have a canada location. send them an email and ask for a quote. that's your best route if the rash doesnt go away after washing them. (make sure you use a very small amount of laundry detergent... not dish soap or hand soap)
