"tweaking" wood blades

After breaking my wood blade last night (a combination of time, and it hitting the glass in frustration (hopefully my dolo shaft is okay though!!)) I have decided i want to experiment with some curves. Being from Canada I can't get anything from HM so I will have to make them. I want to try a big toe curve ( something like the Kovalchuk) and fashion something like OA's banana. What would be a good blade to start from to reach these goals?

To refresh my memory... you just use a blow torch to heat the wood, and use a clamp and some force to bend it how you want it?
