sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Just looking for some advice here...After winning the championship of a lower intramural league we moved up to a higher level. Needless to say, we are getting run. We've been mercy ruled 3 times (although we mercied one team also) and we're all getting pretty frustrated. What suggestions do you guys have for making the most of this season? We wanted to move up to improve ourselves by facing stronger competition, but I see a lot of the guys just shutting down after getting beat so handily. My philosophy is just to try our best and work on improving little things without worrying about winning too much. Any specifics you guys can think of to help me make this season a positive experience? Thanks.

If it is, then you shouldn't be getting upset, and your teammates must not share the same philosophy. Remind yourselves why you moved up in the first place, and either ask the league to move you back down, or grin and bear it until your team figures out where they want to be and if they are prepared to lose in order to get better. hockeyherb 1 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Why are you guys getting schooled so bad? Is it that you can't score, or you can't keep them off the scoreboard? Where do you think your biggest problem is, your end or their end of the ice?Try to think about what small achievable things your team can focus on improving and consider the game a success if you achieve them. So if you're not getting enough shots on net try to bump that up by going for less passes and more shots when near the net. If you have trouble breaking out of your own end, have everybody work on that first - make sure wingers come back and don't leave the zone until the puck is out. Those are just a couple examples to give you an idea of what you guys can work on. I've seen teams and players move up before and it might take a little while to adjust but eventually their game gets better as long as they have the right attitude.Of course, some guys will always just be happier being the big fish in the little pond so it don't be surprised if this splits your team - some guys always want to play at a higher level if they can and others like to be stars in the lower levels. wc19 1 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 wow it seems like the tiering in your division wasn't consistent? if you guys mercy ruled another team. but other than that I'd suggest working together as a team through this focusing on your goals and what you guys can improve on together to turn this around.
