Pickup/Beer League in NJ/NYC?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone can point me to pickup hockey in the Manhattan (NY) or near Fort Lee (NJ) as I am moving there for work. I am looking to play all year round even during the summer.

I am an intermediate player who is just looking for some fun. Please email me at leeandrew@shaw.ca!

Thank you.

Try the Ice House, in Hackensack. Very nearby to Ft. Lee, and they have 8 different divisions based on skill level. Plus the pro shop guys are really knowledgeable and friendly.

Thanks a lot, I actually found that place after some research yesterday. I think I will go check it out once I am in the area. What's the biggest sport in NJ anyways? It's probably not hockey right?

Also, is it too hot during the summer time for ice hockey?

No, you'll be fine -- hackensack or floyd hall will be your closest i think. Hackensack is a nice facility and has some high semi pro divisions. I played in their college league one summer, not too bad.

And NJ Ice Rinks stay fine in the summer, ice is usually just a little soft

Spring Leagues just started at Ice House. Summer leagues start in July and are over by August 31. Open hockey is usually Friday/Saturday nights until July 1.

THanks for the info, DarkStar...I see that you are from Northern NJ too...are you playing at Ice House too?

So is it too late to join the Spring leagues? Who should I talk to regarding joining the league? So there are adults drop-in's on Fri/Sat nights? Are you going to any drop-in's regularly right now?

chelsea has a parking lot, but you need to pay for it. I'm not sure what their schedule is like, but if they have nighttime open, or if you join a league, you can usually get spots on the street after 7:00. May want to invest in a wheel bag or a locker if you're parking on the street though. It can be a long walk.
