FCHC53 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2008 This is one of the things I truely do not like about hockey. Yes, it is common for teams to charge try-out fees. A lot of orgs use try outs as a cash cow, truth is the roster for this team is probably already fixed.

There are some spots open.On a side note, is this Jr. B, or C? I haven't really heard anything about it.

And for the cost of try outs, echl teams do the same thing they just cost more and those rosters are already filled with signed players. We are a brand new team, so the roster is empty. biff44 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2008 "The Monroe Multi-Sports Complex will be host to a new USA Hockey sanctioned team beginning in 2008-2009.Called the Erie Lakers, the team will be a member of the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League. The team will be owned by Gerry Lullove who currently serves as the league's president and as owner of the Motor City Chiefs. The GLJHL has been sanctioned as a Tier III league and likely will compete nationally at the Junior B level. The Lakers will be coached by Greg Paddison, Monroe leagues and programs manager. The team will serve as a developmental squad for elite high school and midget caliber players seeking to move through the Junior ranks and into an NCAA program. It will play an estimated 42-game schedule, plus additional showcase and tournament series."A little truth in advertising is important, especially on a knowledgeable forum like modsquad! $200 is pretty outrageous for a Jr B tryout! top 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2008 This year, for my JUNIOR A tryouts, and for my OHL camp at the start of the season, i payed just over 20$. This is not 20$ I payed to tryout, this was gas money, from going back and forth to the rink for my JUNIOR A camp. As for the OHL camp, they flew my in and payed everything. Thats just simply outrageous to pay 200$ per player. I understand that your a new team, and you guys need to start off somewhere as far as funds etc. But to charge 200$ per player, your gonna end up having a 10 player and 1 goalie kind of roster. oggy_3 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2008 Yeah for my Junior A tryout i payed for my gas money there and if i were to have made it longer into the season they would have started to pay for everything.

warrior37 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 just like tier 3 jr a is jr a? i think the cshl is still the best jr b league in the us
ronnychencharik 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 just like tier 3 jr a is jr a? i think the cshl is still the best jr b league in the usTechnically it is a Jr. A league.
warrior37 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 so you think the motor city chiefs or grand rapids owls could go up to the BCHL and compete? i thinks notta, just like this erie lakers team could not compete in the Western Ontario Jr B league, its just a fact USA hockey is going to have to face, hows does it go, you can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig? wallin2199 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 CSHL is not Jr. B anymore...And also the EJHL is probably the best JR A Tier 3 league in the nation. And then the Atlantic and Central States League are a close 2nd.
warrior37 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 thats not the point, just because you call something Jr A doesnt make it good hockey, if the only difference between tier 1 Jr A and tier 3 Jr A is cost, then why dont teams from the USHL cross over and play teams from the WSHL? and if the CSHL is a legit Jr A league, how many kids went NCAA D-1, or even D-3 for that matter this past season?
GSH13 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I agree there are obvious differences between Tier 1 Jr A, Tier 2 Jr A and Tier 3 Jr A. A lot more than cost. There is more talent in Tier 1 in the U than there is in the NA and even more of a difference between the U and CSHL. From one league to another there are going to be arguments over which one is better from all angles. And a lot of those arguments are very legit. But if the CSHL wants to call itself Tier 3 Jr. A instead of Jr. B and charge more money...who cares? Everyone knows what league it is. Higher leagues know and the NCAA knows. The players that deserve to move up will no matter what the league is called. Personally, I like the idea of a feeder Jr. B like this for leagues like the NA, EJ, Etc. There arent alot of options for hockey in the US and leagues like this give players a chance to develop.
biff44 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Alright, I take it all back. The New England junior teams are creaping up in price too. Guess it is a sign of the times!Seen in the northeast for Jr B: "All players must bring sneakers, workout gear, and a copy of their school transcripts. Pre-registration cost is $85. If you don't pre-register, the cost is $110. Also, all players must be USA hockey registered, if you have questions or need help with this please contact us."
