Bay Area Hockey

Recommended Posts

I just moved to the Bay Area, California and I am in dire need of hockey. I'm living and working in San Mateo and I'm moving into a new place in Burlingame pretty soon. Im playing on a mens league team in the top division at Bridgepointe Ice or something but they have games some week that start at like 10:50pm. I work 7-5 mon-fri so there's no way I can play in those games. Playing once a week sometimes once every two weeks is just not cutting it for me. Does anyone know of any GOOD pickup games, I can play at a high level, at decent hours thats within a 30-40 drive from san mateo? thanks for any help. I'd even be interested in sticktimes just so i dont lose my mind. Again thanks.

I haven't played pick-up at Sharks Ice in ages but I think they have plenty of options, just make sure to call semi-early because the spots fill up. The SJSU club team players tend to get together and play pick up on Friday afternoons which doesn't work for you but you could try contacting someone on the team through their website and ask them where to find a good pick up; they're pretty good players.

I say Oakland or Logitech in San Jose. Both are good. Yet if you are worrying about pickup filling up then go to Oakland because not as many skaters go there compared to San Jose.

come out to Sharks Ice at Fremont. They have pickup on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at 11:45 to 1:15 pm. Monday and Wednesday is usually pretty light. Fridays you have to call in and reserve a spot as it is always filled. They also recently started a Saturday night pickup at 9:45 to 11:15 pm. Don't know what the turn out is as I haven't been to one yet this year.

The level of play is fairly good. Mostly intermediate and advanced players, with a couple of beginners here and there. Fridays and Saturday nights gets pretty competitive.

Go to www.sharksiceatfremont.com for their rink schedule and contact info.

I really wish I was still in the bay area... :(

Yea, i know how you feel. Lived there for 25 years since i was born and now im in the mid west. There's nothing like the Bay, nothing!

Agreed. I'll be going back there eventually (at least to the West coast).

During the summer and on Thursday mornings, I play pick up at Sharks Ice. I actually used to coach beg. and int. kids and adult classes on Saturday mornings, but haven't been able to coach since coming to college. The Stanford team practices at Ice Oasis in Redwood city right now.

For those of you in the Bay Area, where do you guys usually play? I play at Sharks Ice in San Jose. I can't wait for the Sharks Ice in Pleasanton to be built.

After playing roller for many years (many years ago), I'm gonna start a Pacific Hockey Assoc. Beginner Program (http://playpha.com/beginner/index.html) at San Mateo and Vallco/Cupertino, starting June 1. Can't wait!

When I lived up there I used to play at Yerba Buena Gardens. I miss the City, but when my rent jumped from 675 to 875 in less than a year I had to pack it up :(

I just moved to the Bay for the summer. I really want to place shinny here somewhere but I think they all require full equipment. I only brought gloves, stick, and skates. Do any places in the Bay allow just shinny equipment?
