HELP. Im thinking about buying goalie gear.

Recommended Posts

Mission Lt. Pads

I was looking at getting a set of these ( pads, blocker, glove )

I'm a tall guy ( 6'5, 220 ) what size of pads should i be getting?

Tour Redline Skate

Tour Redline skates.

Am I making a mistake with either of these? I would buy used stuff, but I just dont like using other peoples stuff.

I'm trying to keep this little adventure into goaltending to a relatively financial minimum ( i realize its not going to be cheap, but i dont feel like spending THAT much )

Any suggestions on chest protector/pants/helmet that are good price for the quality?

Pad/blocker/glove combos

Would any of the gear combos around 500-600 be any better than the mission pads I listed above?

Thanks. I'm open to any suggestions, maybe even used stuff.

if new NHL sizing doesn't matter, hockeygiant has the Mission Helium Pro leg pads on sale for $299.99 with matching glove $159 and blocker $139

if you're looking for blue/black/white colors check my for sale thread for a blocker and glove.

Used pads is one of the best bargains you can find, I dont have any but ebay is a gold mine.

Matt, check ebay for sure. There are stores like The Goalie Heaven, The Goalie Crease, HockeyPlusMore etc on Ebay with really good prices on entry level goalie equipment. Most of the time they have matching sets and they have many color patterns and brands. You should be able to get some entry level sets for 600$ or under. Keep in mind that you'll have to buy a chest and arm protector, pants, skates, jock and helmet too which should ring in at another 5-600$ I'd say. Also, check the classifieds in your area on places like Kiijjiji (spelling?). You will often find complete equipment in the 600-800$ area.... although it may be hard to find equipment that'll fit you.

At your size you will more than likely be looking at 36 inch pads minimum. You could probably go for 38's. You'll definitly need XL for your Chest and Arm protector and quite possibly XXL if they even make them, which I haven't seen yet.

Good luck
