Skates, and the search continues

Recommended Posts

I've gone thru various models of skates in the last 2 years, mainly because I cant find the right fit. Bought the skates, used a few times, sold them off. Just didnt feel right even with baking.

I've tried different things including changing the insoles between shifts. Yesterday I put in some customed insoles from the orthotist. The wicked 7s felt perfect, like they were "one" with my feet. 5 minutes later I had to limp off and take the skates off. The pain was really unbearable, and my feet felt numb for 5 min or so after that. I had to put in the stock insoles to continue the drop in session. Didnt feel right, heel slippage, pockets of empty areas around the forefoot. Needless to say it ruined the whole night.

ANy suggestions on what I can do to solve this problem? The last really comfortable pair of skates I had was my old Proto VSI's that I had from 2001. Long gone, and the search continues for a replacement that fit well.

Go to a local hockey shop and try everything on, all the skates they have in your size. Lace them up tightly skate around and then just sit with them on for a while. The longer you have them on when you try them the more you will know if there the right skate or not. Also maybe try wearing a pairs of skates more that a few times before you sell them I have had a couple pairs of skates that I had problems with but after skating in them for a couple weeks the problems worked there way out and they felt like they were “one” with my foot. If you still cannot find anything maybe converting a pair of ice skates would be the way to go since there is more of a selection.

i hear ya on finding the right pair of skates. Try on some ice hockey boots as well maybe think about making a custom skate. I did that for the past few years and it worked great as I had so much pain with most roller boots out there. Now I bought the mission boss used them first time they gave me huge blisters, didnt feel comfortable with the vanguard etc etc... Used them a second time and felt incredible. So we'll see what happens with these.

thanks for the replies, unfortunately already tried those options.

done the ice hockey boots conversions, worn some skates for half season, baked, changed insoles... tried most brands as well.

The LHS here isnt really a big shop, so they dont really stock much gear. The best they have right now is the Mission Soldier, and they would order the higher models for you if you are already set to buy. Warranty isnt much help here, so you're better off buying online.

the idea is there, but living in Perth Australia doesnt really help.

Looking at the Kors or Torspos now to see what I can do.

I would go kors not torspos. I have a pair of Shift-1's for ice and hope to someday convert a pair of shift-2's to roller. The person to contact about the kors would be SRI. When I decided to get a pair he was very helpful.
