Wicking socks vs. synthetic hockey socks

Recommended Posts

I've always been using the thin synethic socks that I bought from my LHS and they're decent for $7 a pair. I just recently bought some moisture wicking socks and they do an awesome job of keeping my feet dry. So would they also work good for roller hockey?

What do you use and why?

I've tried both types & had about the same results with either one.

The biggest difference between ice & roller is probably that the ambient temperature is cooler on ice, your body / foot temp probably winds up about the same.

How thick are the oxy socks?...Ive been thinking of getting a pair, but I like a little thicker sock(not 2 socks thick) but you get the the idea...How woould they compare in thickness to the nike dry-fit?

I'm using a pair of the Bauer Vapors. I tacked them onto an order awhile ago to get over the free shipping limit and they have turned out pretty nice. They are fairly thin and they do a pretty awesome job of wicking IMO.

I tried moisture wicking socks a while back and honestly wasn't too impressed with them. I feel I get the same results with regular ankle cut socks.

I've used calf-length synthetic athletic socks for a while now and they've worked great for me. Around Christmas time I started using some moisture wicking socks made by Under Armor. Supposedly, they allow for better blood flow than the standard calf-length sock and they "support" your feet. I'm not sure if all of those things really work, but hey, the socks are absolutely amazing and I'm sticking with them for a while.

UnderArmour hockey crew socks - best by far for me. Tried the Vapor's and they are way too thick.

I just use some socks made for running. They wick away the moisture and stay pretty dry. Only problem is they are semi-low cut. I think I'm going to try the Under Armour socks.

I use the under-armour's made for soccer, they are not to thick and thin enough to fit well in my skates...They do a great job of keeping the foot cool and dry and last a really long time...I have 2 pairs that I rotate and they are going on their third year....I wanna give the CCM Oxy socks a try but was wondering if they were thick enough and if they would fit all the way up to just below the knee?...
