NHL Draft 2008

Recommended Posts

I felt bad for Luke Schenn. A Maple Leaf getting drafted in Ottawa. Poor kid got booed before he's even put on the shirt.

Let the kid have his moment and show a bit of class. It would be one thing if the kid had already done something to piss off the fans in Ottawa.

I'm glad they boo'ed him. The kid is supposed to have a chip on his shoulder as it is. Let this just add to it.

Yeah, the number of trades surprised me too. I don't know if this was really the deepest draft in the past few years (maybe in skaters but the goaltenders apparently were lacking a bit!) or teams were just looking to make deals, it was probably a little bit of each. Anyway, I'm happy my Bolts got Stamkos, and I hope he develops into the next Crosby...

Glad the Rangers drafted Del Zotto though.

First Round:

1-Tampa Stamkos

10-Vancouver Hodgson

20-Rangers Del Zotto

All 3 played on the same minor hockey league team, Markham Waxers. Not recruited to form a 'super team' either, played their minor hockey careers in the waxers org right up to midget. Three players from one minor league team in the 1st round of the NHL draft-on a local hockey board were thinking this has never happened before?

There were 2 others from that group...Tavares is one...and I can't recall the 5th player (from This years draft) who had all played together at that level.

Tavares didn't play for Waxers, he did play summer tourney hockey on Ont all star team with these 3. Tavares played for Oakville in OMHA, then went to G where he was drafted to Oshawa Gens.

Maybe it was the All Star Team they were talking about. I guess 5 kids from an All Star Team all going 1st round is much less spectacular...but a single area/program producing that much 1st round talent is impressive. Was the 5th player PIETRANGELO

Yep, Pieterangelo would have been on the summer tourney team with them.

From the Waxers midget team you can also add a second rounder, Colarado took Gaunce 50th overall.

Whitby had 10 midget players drafted to the OHL last year-a great accomplishment but pales in comparison to 3 going in the NHL first round.
