chef_ducky 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 How do you members still in school prepare for school exams. How long do you study.
Spreedizzle 1 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 I'm out.....but I found that Osmosis worked great (falling asleep with you head on the book and learning by physical absorption). B)
Drewhunz 3 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 I learned that if you have to study for an exam, it's already too late. Dedicating a little time each day is a far better way to learn, as you don't become overwhelmed. As a career student (9 years in college with 5 different majors, 2 degrees and counting) the worst thing you can do is get behind.
ronnychencharik 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 When you are reading the material, write the main points down in an outline form. Then if I still dont get it, rewrite in a quick essay form. Writing it down really helps me remember the subject.Another thing that works well for memorizing a list of stuff is the Roman (or maybe Greek?) house method. For example, if you are memorizing animals, make your kitchen the mammals, then your stove is a lion, your refrigerator is a dog etc. If you need to go further, then the milk can be a terrier, the beer can be a bulldog.Hope this helps.Edit: Drewhunz is absolutely right, don't try to do all this 3 hours before you need to take it. Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 As Drew said, you study best for exams by doing the work all year. That means reading before class, taking solid notes, then re-reading as you re-write your notes. Now, of course, you can be selective in how you do that - some things are obvious digressions, and if they don't interest you, so be it - and some people don't synthesize their notes and readings until an end-of-term revision, but I find the whole process goes better if you work consistently.Anyone who 'crams' and is successful would have been more successful otherwise. Life can intrude, of course, and sometimes you just get obsessed with one aspect of study to the detriment of others (o felix culpa). All that means is that you have to work harder to accomplish less. All the most talented academics I know are supremely good at one thing: focusing on their work. Hell, E.J. Pratt invented a narcoleptic amnesiac persona to get out of faculty paperwork so he'd have more time for serious study. There is another kind of professor - the Departmental Limpet - who clings to bureaucracy like the hull of a rusting ship, but you can spot one easily enough. George Elliot Clarke, for one. Viking 1 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 This all does not bode well for me and the exam I am taking in like 12 hours (and for which I am just now about to open my book). Wish me luck at not becoming a janitor.

sjsharks11 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 I just work hard and study in class. I don't know about you but the last thing I want to do after going to school and studying/hearing about finals is go back to the room and study more.
Remman 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 Like the rest said, it is over time. If you know about a final paper at the beginning of the semester, do you wait until the last minute? Some do. It's almost the same thing with studying for an exam. If you get the information early, just a simple looking over it from time to time will make it easier to remember. Cramming may work for an exam, but will you remember it later on, if a question is asked in a job interview?
chadangle 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2008 i have never been able to be organized enough to set aside time in my busy day to study. i always get my studying done but it always ends up to be the night before and like an hour or two before the examination. i usually do quite well but i dont think it is something i plan on depending on for university.
