5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I'm currently looking to buy some new skates. I was thinking something middle of the line like the Mission Lt. or Tour Code Carbon's. As I have a wide foot(e or ee), I'm a little weary of the Tours since they only come in one width. Any recommendations?
_HSB_b345t 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I would recommend the Code Carbons. If you find the Tours narrow, you'll find the Missions to be worse.I am in the same boat as you; I have wide feet as well -- 11.5EE New Balance. I tried on the new Mission line after my Code 1s crapped out and found the Missions to be very uncomfortable -- too narrow. I purchased Code Carbons. After baking and a couple skates, they fit great. 5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Thanks for the help. Did you try the Mission (W) boot. I know they make a regular and a wide width. Just wondering if you gave the wide on a try. I skated for 30 min. on the regular Missions and was ready to saw my foot off they hurt so bad. I thought the wide ones might be better. I do really like the looks of the Carbons though. They look nice and have the hum'er frame.
_HSB_b345t 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Yes, it was the EE skates. I couldn't even get my foot into the D skates.
5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 How are they as far as durability? I read that the Hum'er chassis is great, but how about the boot?
_HSB_b345t 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I've only skated on the Carbons about 5 times so I can't say. They are significantly stiffer than the Code 1s so hopefully they'll last longer.
Brokensticks 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I've skated in mine twice a week since December or so. I'm a bigger guy at 6'4" and 210lbs. Mine have held up great. Still stiff. I didn't have them baked. My back wheels are chunking and I'll be getting new ones soon. Not so much a fan of the Fuzion wheels. They were good for the first few skates, but quickly seemed to lose grip. That could be due to my size though and the fact that they are X-soft. I love my Carbons. If/When they go on sale, I'll probably buy another pair to use if/when these are shot.
5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Do you guys think it's better not to have them baked? Will that affect the life of the boot?
Brokensticks 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I wore mine around the house to watch tv, surf the internet, etc. a few hours a day before my first game. They were stiff the first two games, but after that, they are nice and broken in. I never did have any pain in them, even with the first two games. There wasn't any info that came with the skates saying they could be baked and I have heard (although I do not know if this is true or not) that you cannot bake them or it might interfere with the carbon fiber but I would say that they probably do not need to be baked to fit your foot provided you get the correct size. The only thing I did to mine was replace the laces with some yellow waxed and replace the footbeds with the Superfeet grays and I was good to go.
5HoleMadman 6 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Well guys I went and picked up the Tour Code Carbon's yesterday. So far so good. I changed out the wheels so I could skate on the street, and with just a couple of skates in them they haven't hurt my feet yet. They baked them at the shop, because they were a little tight on the middle outer part of my foot. They feel great so far. I will update after a couple more skates today and tomorrow. Hoffer 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2008 Do you guys think it's better not to have them baked? Will that affect the life of the boot?Unless the breaks in pain is unbearable I would suggest not baking them. I find that my skates that I don’t bake stay stiffer and last longer.
