Itech X200 Recon

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen the new Itech X200 Recon first hand? Or had the opportunity to try it out before it gets to the public?

I have been looking forward to this full shield for a few months.

Ya I have seen it it looks more like a paint ball mask.

if I had to choose between the fx-50 or the x200 recon, I'd go with the there both not very good, I would just stick with a cage. I had an fx-50 for about three quarters of a year didn't like it then went back to a cage.

After a while it becomes a pain in the ass, because you have to continuously put the anti fog on it because the visors aren't very good. If it's hot in the arena or there are a lot of fans you have to take off the visor/cage. I had that trouble in the OMHA's (all Ontario play offs) Had to change it because we had about 800 + at every game and in some arena's the ice was starting to melt in April? and it wasn't even that warm out around 4 or degrees about freezing outside. I also found the visor to get marked up very easy so that kind of pissed me off.

Your best bet is to stick with a cage

So the nose cut didn't help you?

I really dislike cages. I may be in the minority, but i feel as though my head is in a box, and it makes me feel as though i am taller then i really am... hard to describe. Basically, i really dislike using cages. Been using them forever, but i am pretty fed up with them, lol. I used an older Itech full shield back when i was in Pee Wee, and other then fog, i liked how it was a little more natural to look out of without bars in my face. Then again we are talking about 15 or so years ago and the visors on these things were not anti distortion, so things were slightly distorted unless you were looking straight on.

I may still give it a try, despite fog, i can deal with wiping it after every shift. As long as the general vision looking out of the shield is more natural. The shield is supposed to be contoured and have zero distortion. That is basically my selling point right there.

Thanks for the input.

The nose cut didn't help at all during the playoffs. It was ok during the season, so as long as you don't play in front of 800+ people you should be fine maybe I just had a bad spring of visors. If you go with one of the visors you should pick up the fx-50 the recon's plastic looked really weak. If the visor fogs up on the bench it takes a little bit of skating to get rid of the fog. It's an ok shield but I prefer a cage. Have you considered the Full Face protector vc920 by Oakley. I like Oakley much better than itech fx-50.

Itech Concept II Deluxe get my vote when it comes to a full shield.

I hated that thing. I found it harder to catch my breath....Cage all the way!

Ya it is heavy but after a few skates with it on you don't even notice.

You don't notice the weight, but try going back to a cage after that, and you'll really see the difference.

I used the FX-50 for a while and really liked the visibility at first. But, that visor/cage never quite fit properly (even the large runs on the small side), and your head sweats much more with it. So, when I bought a new helmet, I went back to my Jofa FM480 full cage, and I was surprised how much more ventilation there was and how much lighter it was compared to the FX-50.

I haven't been bothered much by the cage's visibility since I dropped the visor/cage either.

There is a huge difference but I was saying once you start wear the visor/cage you don't really notice any thing until you go back to a cage. I love the cage way better then the visor/cage. Way more ventilation with the cage. I sweat enough with my cage and the fx-50 was about 10 times worse thats the main reason I went back with my cage.

It definitely is hotter than a cage, and I can understand the breathing. I usually tip it up on the bench and its better. No issues fogging with it, however there is never a crowd at open hockey or intramural games...

ok then you should be fine. But just from my experience there was always a crowd of at least 70 but that was enough to make my visor fog up because I'm on the ice a lot so when ever I was on the bench for more than a minute the entire visor was foged up where I couldn't even see. A lot of the time I would give my trainer my extra visor to change half way threw the game. I would not recommend it but it's your choice

Yeah, it was very good for not fogging up, I just didn't like the air flow part!

Just out of curiosity Di Matteo, where do you play?

bump. i'm seriously considering getting this. i'm currently using the oakley visor/cage combo and looking to change. Should I go with the recon, the fx-50 or stay with the oakley? fwiw, the oakley fogs on me and it's too heavy to stay off my face when i'm between shifts.
