drop in/pick up/open hockey in Sweden (or Denmark)

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am going to be visiting some universities in Sweden in October for a Masters program next year. While I am there (studying) I am hoping to play some hockey in my free time. How exactly does pick up/open hockey work (does it exist or do you have to join a league) and how easy is it to get ice time?

Are there any rinks that you recommend (good crowd, good ice, cheap)?

I am looking at schools in Lund and Goteborg.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Yeah, i live in Gothenburg so I cant speak so much for Lund. Personally, Im a roller hockey player and have not looked into joining an ice hockey team. I know pick up is not a very big thing here though, there are not many rinks and those that are available are usually fully booked for team practices or general admission ice skating. There are 3 or 4 rinks in the area (none of them that special..Frolunda Borg is ok) so there are bound to be teams hanging around there and so you may want to ask there. Failing that you could always hook up with me and we can look into it together or something...which schools you looking at by the way? GU or Chalmers?..anyway let me know

cheers

Thanks!

I am looking into GU (and Lund University) so when I'm there I will definitely look into a few of those rinks in the area. If you are up for it, we can meet up and check out some of those rinks. I'd also like to look at some of the rollerhockey facilities, even though I am not much of a roller player, it would be nice to have options if playing ice is not that convenient (from what you mentioned, that may be the case).

Let me know if you are interested and I can let you know the dates I will be in town.

Thanks again,

Hi

Pick up hockey is not big in Denmark. Here you have to join a team to play. I think its the same in Sweden.

Thanks Guys!

FrolundaHC,

I'll shoot you an email when I get closer to the date of my trip. I am going to be staying near the Scandinavium (Nya Allen); so I definitely plan on taking in an Elitserien game while I am there as well.

In case it is no longer in my profile, my email:

Regards,

D
