Wood Extensions

I have a few shafts laying around that are useable, but just need wooden extensions to make them fit me. However, it seems to me that adding a 5" or longer extension would act as a flex point therefore weakening the shaft itself. The last extension I played with always would come loose over time after a few games/practices. Am I correct on my thinking?

From my experiance the longer the extension the more leaverage it has against the inside walls of the shaft which I have seen cause cracks on occasion but more often then not if you use a 12"er its gonna work its way loose before that happens or it'll be pretty unusable anyway.
