Protective Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

Like the the topic says, I recently broke my collarbone and am looking for a new pair of shoulder pads for when I make my return. What are the most protective pads out there, specifically in terms of clavicle protection. I'm coming from a pair of Easton Stealth S9's, which I liked, but I feel like something a little more substantial is called for.

Thanks.

Question: How did you break the bone? Did someone chop at you or were you slammed into the boards shoulder first?

I recommend the Supreme 70 or Supreme 90. They're both pretty low profile and overall, pretty protective. I had a really bad incident where I got hooked and twisted around in my first ice game with the one70s and thought I seriously wrecked my shoulder at first. It ended up just being a little sore for a couple days. I credit the shock dispersion of the padding.

i've tried them on in the past but never owned them - just suggesting them because they are somewhat renowned for the collarbone protection.

if you haven't seen those before (there's been quite a bit of discussion on here about them), they come with 2 pairs of shoulder caps that attach with velcro so they can be switched out (or removed altogether). the pic of them on HM is weird because the second set is attached to the velcro on the arm, (the way these are shipped from NBH), rather than removed.

i can't remember if it was the V08, or V10 i tried on, but they both seemed pretty solid. didn't use them in a game so this is only 'FWIW' - but they seemed quite protective, mobile considering the protection, and actually low profile as well. the way the caps are on the V06 and V04, they actually seemed bulkier than the higher end ones.

i actually considered buying a pair until i remembered that i don't need anything like that for beer league. i had to talk myself out of it.

sorry that info isn't more injury specific.

edit: oh and while the front is definitely more solid, i didn't specifically compare the clavicle area or anything. if i make it into the warehouse tomorrow i'll try to have a look for ya.

Those do look nice, esp. the larger shoulder caps. My only beef is the lace up front- the chest just doesn't seem all that protective.

These kinda look like overkill, anyone have any experience?

I was using the older model. Yes its got ton of protection. to me the the features were a bit weird. I wrote up a review on here for the 2007 model.

Personally, I'm real happy with the Itech 955, a bit bulky but they feel real protective. I've used them for about 15 games so far. You should ideally try them all on if you can
