Internal dimensions of standard shafts, variation in tapered

Recommended Posts

From what I've read, tapered shafts typically measure between 13mm and 14mm by 26mm at the connection point, as in these pictures provided by our own fastmiele:

My questions are:

1) What are the internal dimensions of a standard shaft, as measured above?

2) How much variation is there between tapered shafts, eg. could there be a tapered shaft that measured, say, 16mm by 26mm internally?

I'm sure this information exists somewhere in MSH, but it wasn't readily searchable - at least not to a goalie...

Cheers...

Interesting questions. You are clearly an anal bastard (which isn't a bad thing coming from someone of an accounting/finance mindset).

This must explain why some tenons require some tape on the hosel in order to make a tight fit.

However, the really important, big question is: how much money do I have to have in order to get super-skank-hose-beasts Carmen Electra and Pamela Anderson tag team me in the bed room? Ok, so maybe not the most important question on your side of the equation, but color me curious!

I second that inquiry. The community must know the secrets of the skank-tryst. Power to the people.

However, in the meantime, my goal is chiefly to identify some horribly mislabeled shafts by proxy. They may be tapered; they may be standard; and I, unfortunately, need to get the answer. The person who has them has no blades, so I'm left to measurements.

M'aidée!

edit: I guess my more specific question is this:

If someone borderline silly measured the internal dimensions of a shaft at 16mm x 26mm, could I in good conscience tell them it was tapered, or is it more likely standard? Or, conversely, would a standard shaft be more like 20mm x 26mm, ie. obviously larger in width?

ask and you shall receive:

old Easton Ultra Lite shaft

I would say that anything with an internal measurement of:

14 mm = tapered

16 mm = standard

My rough variations would be no more than .10 - .50 mm off.

I measured about 5-6 shafts and they are all about the same (within .1-.2 mm)

Many thanks... the pictures of the UL are especially helpful, since I suspect the measurements were taken inaccurately on the other end.

I am somewhat confused at your goal, are you trying to buy some shafts from someone online ? If so I can see your issues.

If you are trying to buy some shafts from online, here are a couple of tips I think that may be useful.

Have the person lie all the shafts down on the wide side (The side with company name and model - eg. Easton Ultra Lite). If you have both tapered and standard shafts the height will not be the same). Alternatively, the person can line up the butt end with the insertion end of other shafts. If its not the same size then its tapered. Lastly if its tapered, the person can run they their hand down the shaft and you can feel it tapering near the insertion end.

good luck.
