Car Interior Headliners

Recommended Posts

This one is for the car people on the board. Ive got a chrysler 300 that is all black, but for some reason the included headliner and pilars are tan. I have heard that they make a paint like substance that you can change the color of the fabric headliner, and the plastic pillars to what ever color you want. the tan has a cig burn, tape marks, and crutches marks all over it and i would really like to make it black to match the wheels, grill and all that stuff on the car. if anyone can verify that something like this exists, and if anyone has any advice. I tried ordering a new one in black, but chrysler uses vin numbers to order parts and they could only send me the same color and they claim there is no way around it.

thanks alot

You can get interior dye for the A & B pillars and any other plastic, its super easy to do but stinks like nothing else for a while. I did mine black in my 300 before I sold it I'll try and see if I have any pictures of it but I dont think I do. For the headliner I would look on some sites for an OEM black one, im sure you will be able to find it.

You remove the trim pieces with a normal torx driver and pop them off. Then stick a spatula under the headliner and pull. Pretty easy, but very time consuming.

The sun roof has a plastic surround that will pop out. Sun roof components are often sold as a pack, so if that is tan you might be SOL getting black.

I had my roof smashed in and the headliner was removed at the body shop to do the roof/sunroof replacement. They were a top-notch shop and they didn't get my dome light buttons back right, apologizing and knocking $100 off the bill for wiggly buttons that I never use.

Call up some custom/auto body/car audio shops and ask how much to do a headliner swap. Hell, cut yours with a knife and see if the dealer will do it. Those places have the tools and skill to get body panels apart without breaking anything, and they better damn replace anything that they do fuck up. And yes, it does take special tools to do this sort of thing, getting back behind to undo hidden clips and whatnot.

Find a compatable 300 in a junk yard that had the engine smashed out and get it out of there, or ask the custom/auto body/car audio shops if they can get a used one from one of their sources.

I looked up some things for you. There is a few 300 guys that are doing suede headliners that look amazing like this so its something you could look into. What I used to dye the plastics was vinyl dye , all it takes is a few light coats and it wont chip or peel becuase your actually changing the color of the plastic, plus there is tons of guides all over the internet on how to do it.
