Ankle problem (pics included)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I recently bought a pair of Vapor Shifts (XXV SMUs) from my LHS. Off the box and after heat molding they felt fine. 2 days later after 3 skates I started to feel pain in my left ankle bone. After a closer look it seems like my ankle bone is getting very little padding and is very close to the eyelets. Will punching do the trick? I apologize to those in advance for having to look at my foot!

This is how my foot sits inside the skate:

Another pic where the bone makes contact with the skate:

On another note, do I have anything to worry about in this pic? (Outsole separation?):

Thanks guys. Aside from what looks to be malleolar bursitis, the skates fit very well and I have no problems with depth or hotspots with my right foot. It's just that part of my left that is really close to the eylets.

My LHS punched out the area (free of charge) and I purchased a bunga pad sleeve that'll cover my malleolar until it feels better. Hopefully it does the trick.

What about the 3rd pic? Should I be worried or is this normal?

That is basically the exact same problem that I have now. I got it while wearing a pair of s500's. I absolutely loved the skates but then began having a horrible pain in my inner ankle area, then my left ankle began to get huge (its a lot bigger than yours). I now wear 707's and the problem isn't noticable. I think another option may be the mission series where the inner ankle pad is further forward than the outer ankle pad.

The inner and outer ankle aren't lined up perfectly together. The inner ankle is a bit farther forward than the outer ankle. Mission addressed this problem with a certain line of their skates. To bad they didn't do it with the s500's. . .

As previously stated I had that area punched out and on top of that I also bought bunga pads (malleolar sleeve) to help reduce irritation to that area. I haven't skated in them yet (will do tonight) but the initial feel is that it feels better although the sleeve adds a bit of volume. I'll keep the sleeve on until the skates break in.

I tried grafs but their eyelet placement made it impossible for my left foot....the malleolar was right on the eyelets!

well only one graf worked for me, that was the 707, because the ankle area is separate from the eyelets

just asking, but can andoy's ankle problem be improved with some footbeds like superfeet, and i'm not just asking in his case, in general for others with the same problem?

for me, superfeet make it worse. if i take my inserts out, then my foot sits a lilttle lower in my skate and i have a wee bit more padding around my ankle. with superfeet my inside ankle winds up almost on top of the lace eyelets.
