new sticks

Recommended Posts

i also have the one95 OPS and i love it, had it for over a month and it is a tank!

lately i have been using my one90 2pc.. originally a OPS i stuck a wooden one50 blade on the shaft and i love the feel with the wood blade. altho the one50 isn't your highend/best wood blade out there the feel was great and my shot did not suffer.

definitely try a 2 pcs with a wood blade

Not the thread jack, but i thought I'd post a similar dilemma.

I currently play roller hockey and I've decided to post in the ice section because i thought it would get more views. I'm 5'7'' 130 (I know I'm light)

I'm a forward looking for a stick that will give me a good wrist shot but at the same time not so whippy when I decide to slapshot, which is often. For me, I'm undecided with what flex (and model of course!) I should buy; I've had two nikebauerone95s (87flex) that I have broken both in the blade, so don't recommend that... <_<

right now, I'm thinking of most of the top sticks, even ones that arn't out too... Reebok 10k, Warrior Dolomite HD, Dolomite Spyne, CCM U+, Reebok 8.0.8 (seems gimmicky), and the Easton S17 (which i hear is fragile, so I probably wont want that.) etc.

which stick do you guys/gals recommend that you've personally used? I'm leaning towards the Dolomite Spyne right now...

thanks for your help

My friends Dolo Spyne didnt even make it 3 weeks and the blade snapped off... Wouldnt suggest that, but maybe a regular or HD Dolo would hold up better

i have the s17 for roller right now and love it, gonna buy another one soon. It is a little more whippy than the other sticks mentioned though after a while. Ive seen more warriors break than any other stick so I wouldnt recommend them for durability.

I'm considering the U+ OPS, but I need to hear from guys that have played with one about the whippiness. MSH flex chart rates the Reg (85) Flex as a 90 on the Easton scale, and the Mid (75) Flex as an 80. Does this hold true for the U+, as I have heard that they are whippier than other Vectors.

Also, is the Mid Flex a Senior or Intermediate stick? I've seen it listed as both.... Thanks.

My understanding is that CCM does not make true intermediate sticks, at least not in their current top models (V10/U+, correct me if I am wrong). My recollection is that they are senior shaft dimensions with a lower ("intermediate") flex of 75. This explains the confusion. IMO, they should just call them senior sticks with 75 flex. To me intermediate implies smaller shaft dimensions (and typically 1-3" shorter shaft as well).

Most "intermediate" sticks from other manufacturers are lower flex and also have smaller shaft dimensions. A good example of this is warrior, whose "intermediate" sticks are 60/70 flex, ~51" shaft length with smaller shaft dimensions. Despite that, they also make "senior" sticks starting at 75 flex that are 54" shafts which is standard senior length that also have standard senior shaft dimensions.

So, long story short CCM seems to be the "odd man out" in the sense that they call their light flex (75) senior sticks "intermediate flex". Other brands like TPS would call these senior sticks with whip flex, light flex, or simply denote them as 75/77 flex seniors. Most other brands clearly have intermediate models that are smaller, shorter (usually), and have 60-70 flex. Intermediates typically have senior length blades although there are a few exceptions that are junior length (usually two-pieces that take junior or special intermediate blades). Those are exceptions however - by far most intermediates take senior blades these days.

Thanks, but I know all of this. It's simply that I've seen the MID (75) Flex (not Light, which is 65) listed by inlinewarehouse as Intermediate, whereas HM lists it as a Senior. So the only difference appears to be that the Mid Flex is 57" and the Reg Flex is 60".

Now, back to my main question: how whippy are these sticks? I'm not sure whether to go Mid or Reg....

I am pretty sure the 75 flex is senior shaft dimensions / length (54") so that would be 60" total length. The 65s would be the intermediate shafts with 51" length (57" overall) and smaller shaft dimensions.

Those U+ sticks do feel very whippy for their flex.

How whippy are we talking here? Like a Mid (75) feels like a 65? I was looking to get a Mid based on the MSH CCM flex rating of 80, but if it's like a 70 or even less this is not going to work for me, and I should go Regular Flex.

My stiff flex U+ stiffer than a regular 100

Thanks for your reply. Is this true for others of you using the lower flexes (Mid and Regular) as well?

No, not according to CCM's site. Mid (75) Flex is 57" long. But I assume it has Sr. shaft dimensions, even though some retailers are advertising it as an Intermediate stick.

just to throw my 2 cents in flyerman, i feel like my U+ reg flex feels a bit closer to an 80 than and 85 which is perfect for me but its up to you

Thank you for the feedback. A whippier Reg Flex (like 80) is what I am shooting for. Do others concur?

If I go 75 Flex and only cut 2.5 " off (because of the short length of this stick), I am worried this is going to be way too whippy for me. But still hard to tell unless I have one in my hand, and my LHS doesn't stock them.....
