Normal skate wear?

Recommended Posts

The skate is a RBK 9k, wear them twice a week for about 9 months now.

The inner side of my left skate is wore off, only the top layer.

Am I wearing my skates too loose (even though I tie it as tight as possible) or just the quality of the material is not very good?

Also, on the inner side of my right skate when I run my hands through it, its a little ruff just not torn yet. Yes, I do wear socks.

Should I take it back to store to get this fixed or will this tear just stop there? What can I do to avoid this as I do not want to be buying new skates every year, I am broke =(

Thanks

are you properly airing your skates out? all the color in the bottom make me think youre not. but i could be wrong.

I take my insole out as soon as I get home and let the skate air out on the rack till I re-pack my gear. Should I be taking my insoles out when I change right after the game instead?

depends on how long your skates sit there in your bag ;) it wouldnt hurt anything to do it immediately, though.

do you pull your tongues way out when you air it?

does your heel lift and move around in your skates at all?

it appears to me that your heel is lifting, causing alot of friction in the skate, which is ripping the liner.

Unfortunately, normal. My CCM Vector 10s that have that same liner are doing that exact same thing although wearing more so than tearing. I just say deal with it (probably not affecting you much anyway) as there is not much else that can be done outside of you getting a new pair and I am not sure that this would be warrantied, although it never hurts to ask...

Had a similar problem with my Bauer 6000's. I took them to the local shoe repair that I use for my glove repalming and he glued a leather patch over the tears/rips, as it happened in both skates. It was a stronger material so it held up and prevented the original liners from getting worse.

I still have the skates and the patches are still good.

had the same problem with my rbk 9k's.. mine were from initial break in... whne u flex forward your heel digs in.. its partially due from the skates being high cut and stiff. try not to tie them so tight!

buy a narrower heeled skate next time

the only skates mentioned here are ccm rbk, some of the wider heels fits of all skates

your heel is going to dig into the boot in every boot, but if while youre flexing your knees and your heels are moving in your skates, thats how you get holes in the liner

just imagine doing that hundreds of times a game, and the amount of friction youre creating on that liner

I think I might have a duck feet, I have wide feet and now figuring out narrow heels....

I had a Bauer Supreme 4000 before this (mainly recreational skating before) and my legs would kill after a hockey game, but got RBK when I seriously started to play hockey. I still have the bauer and just inspected it and noticed the same area on my bauer skates are more worn than any part of the skate (but no holes yet, the linear seem more sturdier though like leather), maybe something wrong with my skating?

Thanks

No.

well, that may be why your footbed is brown and nasty... leave your laces loose and pull your tounegs forward to allow as much circulation as you can to evaporate the sweat.

i am like that too, it has nothing to do with your skating, if you havent been properly fitted for a pair of skates, that might be something to look into next time youre in the market for skates

companies like easton make narrow heels and wider forefoots than others, just make sure your heel is snug. as long as you dont have any blisters on your heel, you arent doing too badly for yourself

I find that it's very common for people to only take into account the wideness of their forefoot when in fact the heel and ankle area is the most important. You can always punch out the forefoot of any skate but you can never always shrink the heel.

I would say take your skates back to where you bought them and see if they can rebake them and then collapse the heel slightly with their palms.

That is an interesting solution, maybe I will give it a shot. Will talk to the guy and see what he says.

This happened my vector 6.0's, after a year and a half the liner is in a hole the size of a quarter...on both ankles. The top of the liner also wore through. I then got a new pair of skates as they completely broke down and they were more like skating with warm butter instead of skates. This hasn't happened in my 9k ice skates yet, but i expect it will now...

I had this problem in 10.0's, but instead they were too tightly fitting on my heel since CCM has narrow heels. I switched to RBK's and have had no problems with this whatsoever, and they fit perfect.
