Graf toecap sizing

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the cutoff point for the toecap width on Graf skates? I'm currently wearing a size 8W 707 and they fit pretty well but they're giving me massive callouses on the inside of both of my big toes. I had my shop punch it out as best they could and it didn't help much. I'm sized correctly so 8W is right for me but yesterday I tried on a 8.5W G35 and it felt a LOT better than my 707s. The price is a little hard to swallow but they felt great around the toes. The skate dude thought that I'd really like a 705 but of course they don't carry 8W, and wouldn't order one unless I was going to buy.

Anyway, this led me to believe that Graf uses a larger toecap on the 8.5 since it felt so much better, but I could slip the heel. I'm just nervous about spending that much money on skates and having it not work out, especially since I'm just getting back into ice hockey.

The 8.5 could have felt a lot better since your toes wouldn't be as far into the toe box, and the consturtion of the skate might not have as pronounced of a transition that would cause a slight narrowing where the stitching is. Did you try the G35 in 8W?

Have you tried other brands? It might be that the Graf toecap style just doesn't suit you. There is someone here who has done a lot of modifications to skates, including Graf, who should be able to help you in finding out the stretch limits. I think it's LawGoalie, though I can't say for certain.

My current skates blister my big toes when I haven't skated for more than a month, but the callouses that form don't bother me at all when I'm skating consistently. I also have an issue that my second toe is longer, and not letting my big toe being the farthest into the toe box is part of why my skates rub me wrong I think.

They didn't have the G35 in 8W, like I said, very small shop :(

I really should have tried on as many skates as I could, but I had to get out of there or else I would have been stuck in traffic for hours :) I don't really want the cast-like feel that so many brands seem to be offering now. The 707s are super flexible and I think I like that kind of fit. I've wrestled with fitting for about ten years now in roller. The last pair of skates I really liked were 652 Tacks. My 707s actually have a roller chassis mounted because I couldn't find a single off the shelf inline skate that felt decent.

These guys might be just pushing Graf, but they said there really wasn't anything like the 652 anymore.
