PhotoShop Help

I have photo shop and i use it often to change color's of things like cars and such. I use the poligonal lasso or whatever its called and it use to work. now when i do all the clicks for my points and after when i connect it it says and error message(see picture). Also if i do like a big area it works but then it goes to just a circle(see picture 2) instead of the area i selected by my points. Anyone know how to fix this

the error message is because your working on the wrong layer, flatten the image, or go to the layer with the picture, and i deno about the big circle
