More info is up. He rejected the extension offered by the Ducks so they decided to make the change now versus after the season. In one to two weeks ("transition period") he'll be free to speak with other teams about employment.

Doesn't he have ownership in a WHL team...? The posthumous inductee was the Founder of that League. I wouldn't read much more into it.
