Expanding Heel in Grafs

Recommended Posts

I've been using Grafs for a while, and as of recently I've noticed that as time goes on, the support around my ankle gets very loose and movable rather then stiff like they start off with. The support part also gets very wide, allowing my ankle to move around easily. In my old skates you can actually see a warp in the top part of the boot because of the way they were warped with constant usage.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Would tying up my skates around the top of the skate so it doesn't widen out any more?

Anything you wrap around the top of your skate, be it the laces or sock tape, will increase the rapidity of skate breakdown. While it may serve its purpose, it will not be benefitting your skates in the long haul.

i dont know how you take off your skates, but i would recommend that you unlace you skate down the top two eyelets so that when you pull your heel out it doesnt put unnecessary pressure on the padding and will help it maintain its shape

I remembered coming across this in PHEW on Facebook.

Cross stitched sides for added stiffness. Not sure if this was done by NBH (err just Bauer back then) or by a third party company, but maybe take a look into trying to get this done to your skates if you feel like they've lost some of their stiffness.

My favorite part...

Yeah, they are cross-stitched for stiffness.

ya but that doesnt look like it will help stiffen the heel. unless you mean maybe do that stitching around the heel.

to op:

I had my graf skates stretched becuase my toes were hurting. they stretched it and now my toes are fine, but the way they stretched it they ended up stretching my heals wider. so now my heels kinda slop around. was kinda pissed at first but seemed to gotten use to it. dunno I gaurentee your heels aint as bad as mine lol. I might get a new pair of grafs soon. thinkin gof getting g3 ultra's.

I'll check that out, never seen that done before so I don't know how much luck I'll get. I guess I'll be getting the newer style skates next so they don't get loose lol. Thanks.
