Bauer Cage on Mission Helmet?

Recommended Posts

Picked up a new Mission Intake with a cage that I found at a LHS for $60! I was thrilled to get it for that price. Anyways, played with it for the first time last night and it definitley kept my head cooler but I had vision problems all night. The bar goes right across my eyeline. I was playing with a Bauer 4000 before and didn't have vision problems. Took a quick look this morning at both cages before heading off to work and it looks like the cage design is the same for the my old BAuer and the new Mission. I probably just have to keep experimenting with the tightness of the helmet to keep it in place but I'm considering getting one of the Bauer 9500 cages. They say it increases vision by 20%. Not sure how they get that figure or if I believe it but they do say it is lighter which is always a good thing. Are all of the cages interchangable with the helmets? I would have to order this cage online and don't feel like getting it and then having to return it.

Thanks in advance.

Cages, yes, are all interchangeable. Visors can be a little more difficult, but a vast majority are able to fit any helmet as well.

I use a Mission Intake with a Bauer 9500. Both are size medium and work great. The size large didn't fit at all.

Oh yeah, and I used an 8500 cage before...the 9500 is a lot lighter, bars are thinner, and it looks better :)

Alright I'm pretty much sold. Do you think the difference in vision and weight is noticeable when you cahnged to the 9500?

I'd say probably a 30% reduction in weight and the bars are lighter and narrower, so less noticeable. My 8500 cage was a little heavy but I never had any problems with the weight or vision. I completely forget about the 9500 cage unless I get hit by a stick or puck. It's definitely the best cage I've seen or used.

I have the 9500 cage on my helmet, and I don't even notice it's there once I'm out on the ice. I should note this is my first cage since I just started playing hockey, but I never thought a cage could be this unnoticeable.
