S.Gagne12 1 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 Hi there,i´m thinking about getting some Synthetic ice skill pad but i don´t know about the size.Do i need it that big that i can shoot off with my skates on standing on the pad or is it ok to stand around with shoes and just have the pucks and stick on the pad?I think about it cause of the muscle memory kind of things cause your higher in skates than in shoes about a few inches. What do you guys think?ThanksBye
reyno2ac 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 If you can, I would say that being in your skates would be better. If not though, i'm sure standing in your shoes is fine.
dalebert 8 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 I noticed my shooting was significantly worse on skates [ :( ] So I decided on skates while shooting was best and it definetly helped out. The way I see it is if you're able to get on skates do it, you'll be shooting on skates not shoes during a game, unless you play on shoes lol.

Simonp27 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 If standing in skates is not practical then make sure you are off the ground by the same amount that your skates raise you off the ground.

Guitarmy 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I use a stick that's about 3" shorter when messing about around the house.
biff44 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Yeah, If you are so concerned about the muscle mechanics, I would just use a shorter stick, although the flex will be off then. Not many people are going to take the time to put on some skates first to stand around for a half hour shooting pucks. Also, you do not want to use your good skates, as the blade edges will crack off from all that synthetic ice/dirt--so you would have to buy a cheap pair of 2nd skates. I guess you could just glue some 2" wood blocks to the bottom of an old pair of sneakers if you wanted everything to match, then you could use your regular stick. Send us a picture if you do--we all need a good laff. You know, if you had a shooting surface, and right next to it had two lenghts of 2" x 12" x 4' lying on the ground, that would raise you up to simulate the skate height, but would not require you to don any funny equipment.
