iceholes 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 I have our last Mites practice this weekend...4,5,6 year oldsMany Parents/family have been invited and will be skating with the kids.I am trying to come up with a fun hour so everyone has a good time... any suggestions?I have about 30 kids in this class so having a"fun" game with everyone may limit participation time.I also have no divider to split the ice in two to get two games going.Any suggestions on what I can do? for some or all of the time...thanks
DCott 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 Grab a beach ball and a lasso and hope team Iceland doesn't show up.
dontdumpdangle 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 if you have additional nets you could run small games in each of the three zones cross ice, and depending on the skill of the kids you could also use cones for nets. Also if you go with the cones, you could throw a soccer ball out there instead of the puck. Just have teams rotate through the different zones
fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 parents against kids? it will be fun to see how the screaming parents do against their kids...we had a parent last week criticising his son's goaltending the whole night... Darkbyte asked him if he skated, and he said no.
dalebert 8 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 Maybe parents vs. kids relay races or an obstacle course [adults may have some trouble with it though lol]

Jordan 13 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Ice soccer...everyone can play at once...soccer ball, no sticks...you can easily do two lines per team, make one 7 kids and one 8 kids...lots of room without sticks to worry about.British bulldog.. start with 2 or 3 kids in the neutral zone (they have to stay between the blue lines), the rest of the kids line up at one of the goal lines, trying to get through the neutral zone without being tagged...as the bulldogs tag the kids, the kids that are caught join the bulldogs tagging the others, until no one is left...then, do it again!!Relay races are always fun...epsecially when the kids teams "beat" the dads.Oh...and a lot of treats after the skate !!!!!Hope you have a great time! durke 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 I tried the soccer thing here. As you all know soccer is the #1 sport here so all the kids are very familiar with it. It turned into a disaster, because I couldn't keep the kids form doing sliding tackles. Which of course most of them thought was fun. Sliding full speed at the ball. LOTS of crying kids! RecLeagueHero 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 I pretty much remember having a scrimmage for the last practice up through bantam's. Whatever you do, announce at the start of practice that it's going to be a normal practice. That way you create disappointment and whatever you actually end up doing will seem that much better. iceholes 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 well... I started out by putting all the parents /family through drills as a normal start of practice...about 100 at that point...it was a riotThen it all changed.Local AHL team mascot then showed up. More people kept coming on...and I had over 150 people on the ice. Family, a giant gorilla, pucks, balls and a ton of fun.I had everyone free skate for a while and it was a blast... Shooting on a gorilla... watching people skating who dont normally, seeing kids all jacked up as family was with them, and many small groups enjoying a new experience. Kids were showing parents how to shoot pass and skate... It was great.I personally went to every adult and thanked them individually for their support and coming out...So even the best plans sometimes dont work out... but we had a ton of fun.I saw lots of sweat, and we ran out of pizza...
