Helmet/cage weights for kids

My son wants to play mini-mite hockey next year. He's been taking skating lessons and using one of those old Itech helmets that are really round, with an Itech junior cage. However, the date on the helmet is really, really old, and the cage with J-clips is actually too small for him (I use a cut down J-clip on the bottom screw hole to keep it in place). I wanted to move him into a newer currently certified helmet with a cage of the appropriate size, so we went helmet shopping and ended up with the lower end Easton helmet with a small Itech cage. However, this combo is significantly heavier than the one he is using, especially with the cage on. He keeps on going back to the old Itech. Is there a modern small helmet/small cage combo that is as light as the older setup he likes?
