sectachrome 40 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Noticed a couple members are from Colorado. Im moving there from NJ in a week. Anyone know of any good hockey shops in the Boulder area?
Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 The rink in Boulder resembles someone's basement, but down 36 a few miles is the Ice Centre at Promenade (also SunMicrosystems center). They have a great facility there with a AAA program and everything. Also a decent pro shop, but a bit of a limited selection on sticks. The best shops are the Player's Bench locations down south, one is off of C-470 at County line road and university. The other is on Tamarac parkway in the Denver tech center, maybe a half hour drive with no traffic.

I live in Boulder and theres a Break a way sports on 29th street i believe. Its mainly a lacrosse store but they occasionally have a great selection for sticks. I always go to the Playersbench in Westminster. Check there website for the address. The boulder rink, Boulder Valley Ice at Superior, has the best ice I've ever skated on. People call the rink the Tin can because its not very nice from the outside, but the ice is amazing. There's a rink on the CU Boulder Campus but its terrible. Tiny lockerrooms and terrible ice. Never have any public sessions either. BVICE is the best around here for public sessions. http://bvice.pucksystems.com/page/show/35503-scheduleAlways great turnouts for the Adult drop ins especially the noon ones on week day. Stick and pucks are fun too. Let me know if you need to know anything else.
Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 I agree that BVICE is great, just not the greatest facility
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Awesome, thanks a lot guys. Ive been looking at the BVICE website, looks like a good rink. Ive never played ice before and plan on starting when I get there. Im a little sad leaving my weekly drop in roller crew here, nice to know theres good rinks around with stuff going on. Ill definitely be checking out Players Bench, I need to get skates and stuff I dont have for roller.
forsberg91 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2009 Yeah Playersbench is for sure your best bet. Especially for skates.http://playersbench.com/
sdcopp 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2009 should be plenty of roller in the area too, though I'm an hour south so I don't know how near/far places like RMR and the Bladium are from Boulder

There's Skate City in Westminster that has a rec league, but I dont know if they have any drop in sessions or anything.
Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2009 Just a heads up but bladium is a bit of a hole. It's an airport hanger with crap hanging from the ceiling. However, there is a rink and 2 goals, so if its closest go for it.
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Just wanted to say thanks for the help.I went to Players Bench and the guy there was very helpful and I got all my gear. I stepped on the ice for the first time yesterday at a stick and puck at BVICE and had a good time. Thankfully a lot of my inline skating skill transferred onto the ice and I think I did very well for my first real time on ice skates. Stopping had me a little stumped at first but I started to get the hang of it by the end of the session.
