Vector V06 Skates - fit:

Recommended Posts

I have a wide forefoot, a narrow heel, a high arch, and my ankles are skinny for my leg shape. The skates I am currently in (Easton 1200c) are completely breaking down from being wrong for my feet, and it's starting to affect my performance. My left foot has started pronating, and I've noticed that the quarter package has separated from the carbon fiber boot.

Question: How do the Vector V06 skates fit? If I get them in a wide, might they be good for me? I'm reasonably sure I need something deep for the arch, but narrow in the heel to get that bastard locked in. I'm trying to finish out a season and (depending on the damn job market) will be buying higher-end, perhaps custom, skates within the next year to year-and-a-half. Are the V06 durable enough for 1-2 skates per week for that duration, fewer during the summer (I should add that I'm a big boy, over 230lbs)?

Thanks for any help on this.

Where are you at in IL? Do you have access to a hockey shop?

East Central, and I do, but the selection is limited. there are some other stores within 50+ miles, but their stock is generally limited to D width skates which makes it hard for me to try a bunch on and see what works (I'm certain I need a wider skate, dress shoes in EE and wider feel very comfortable) . I have had a pair of vectors in the past, they seemed to be deep enough, but the width was off.

I've found that it really adds up cost-wise to not try on skates and keep having to get new skates all the time due to fit issues. Maybe you should try to go up to Chicago for a day and try on a pair of skates at a shop with a good selection. It usually is worth having a pair that fits and you wont have to dick around looking for another pair of skates that fit better. How far are you from the Chicagoland area? You could probably hit up Gunzo's or another shop. I guess you could try on a pair of Graf 709s as well.. They're wide and deep. I wear an "W" in some shoe brands but I'm a 9D in the Vapor XXXXs and Supreme line.

Instead of driving all over the place do some internet searches first. Totalhockey.net, Gunzo's.com and PicksNPucks.com which is located inside Center Ice of DuPage. If you were interested in Grafs than Picks N Pucks is the place to go. Totalhockey and Gunzo's have everything else. If you also wanted to try on some Mission Hockey skates you can try Jerry's Hockey Warehouse. If you decide to make of day of visiting LHS's you should try on every skate they have to see what you like and don't like. About a week ago someone on this site said, that Fred's Hockey Shop is going to get the new FlexLites.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up getting a pair of the V06s because they felt good when I tried on pair a buddy had a pair in my size but not my width. I went one width bigger and so far, so good. I'm concerned a bit about stiffness, but we'll see.
