Best Heel Lock CCM

Recommended Posts

I have been using Pro Tacks for the last several years. Unfortunately it's time for a new pair. I have been looking at the new CCM's. My foot is a standard heel with a wide forefoot. Does anybody have a suggestion as to what CCM skate gives the best heel lock for a regular size heel? VO8? U+?

Thanks!

From my recent experience shopping for skates after using Pro Tacks for over a decade...you will be disappointed. The new CCMs are narrow as shit for some reason. In older CCMs, I was a C width. In new CCMs, a D width was quite snug. The big difference you'll find is the poor fit in the heel. So if you have a big heel and a somewhat narrowish forefoot, you're ok. But from what you posted, I don't think you'd be happy. RBK skates are even more extreme when it comes to being wide in the heel. I don't know why, it's just the way they felt.

I ended up buying Vapors FWIW.

I'd look at what the shop has and try on a few skates. What I wouldn't do is go in expecting to leave with a pair of CCMs. They just don't fit the same as the old CCMs of yore.

I was afraid of that. From what I hear the Vapors will probably be too narrow. I just need to get to a shop that has a large selection. The most important/only thing to me is that heel lock. Thanks for the input

I think you'll be surprised when you try them (Vapors) on. They didn't feel narrow to me except where it counted - the heel. The forefoot is a tad bit wide for me, but for the price I can deal with it. $250 (Vapor XXV) compared to $700+ for a custom skate was a no brainer.

Even the guy at my LHS was surprised at how narrow the newer CCC/RBK stuff is. Much more narrow than the Vapor line. For my little bro, who has a wide forefoot, RBK/CCM skates in width E were too narrow yet Vapors in D fit perfectly after a bake. So I'd really throw the whole 'CCM/RBK skates are for wider feet' right out the window. I read many people say that here, however, it seems as if that may have been an echo chamber.

They didn't have any Bauer Supreme skates in my size, so I really cannot comment on those and I do not like forward pitch, so Grafs were out of the question unless I wanted to sink another $200 in them for Tuuk holders.

Here's my experience: Tried on the ccm u+ last year, and was way big in the heel; got instead the ccm 06 skates and they fit better, but still a little big for me in the heel, and rather deep for me; just got the vapor 60's and excellent in the heel and less deep, but actually a little wider in the forefoot, which I was surpised about. Again, the vapor is definitely wider in the forefoot as compared to the ccm's.

Been doing some research and the new Bauer Flexlites seem promising. From what I could gather the heel is narrow/normal with a wide forefoot. Something I will definitely look into. Thanks again for the input.

I took your advice and tried on the Vapor XXXX's Much to my surprise they fit like a glove! There seemed to be more room up front than my Pro Tacks! Hockey Giant has them in-store for $299. Great Deal!!

Thanks for the input!

If you like the Pro Tacks, you can still get the 2004 model as a custom skate from CCM. Probably run you $600 though.
