Hockey Pant Shell

Does anyone recommend wearing a hockey pant shell over a roller girdle? I know they don't come with the kidney guard but wanted to try and use as much of my roller equipment for occasional ice pick-up.

I've done it for pickup, wouldn't do it in a real game though.

That is what I wear for all my games. League or pickup. I don't play in a very competitive league though. I'm also wearing a Bauer XR Lite girdle which is one of the more protective roller girdles, in my opinion.

Is the padding placement any different between ice pants and an inline girdle?

There is more and thicker padding on my ice girdle.

The roller girdle leaves places exposed that might sting in roller, but really hurt in ice.

Not really, the padding is thinner and typically more flexible. Part of that is because the girdle fits tighter and your body has to bend the girdle, not bend within it like a pant. Most inline girdles have a lot less hard plastic. There will typically be more open spots with an inline girdle as well, so you'll be more vulnerable to shots.
