Do you tape your blade? How to prevent wear...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, just wondering if you tape your blade for roller hockey and if you do, what is your taping style? I am thinking of starting to tape my blades (OPC) since it wears down very fast. I am thinking maybe like two strips of tape for the bottom, and then maybe waxing it up so it doesn't reduce the sliding ability of the blade on the surface as much. Do you think it is necessary to tape a composite blade to prevent wear?

DEFINATLEY, i tape all of my blades from heal to toe because i find that the surface i play on destroys the bottom of my blade and i hate my blades getting messed up quickly when it is preventable with tape. Also, i prefer the feel of a blade with tape on as opposed to a blade that isn't taped.

i was scared that it would cause too much friction but its not bad at all, barely notice it.

dolomites are different cause the blades seem to wear very well on most surfaces

i have a one95 i play with, i do one stripe on the bottom then toe to heel.

fyi i play on rink with no ice, smooth concrete

I use bladetape from bladetape.ca with no tape on the bottom. I haven't really noticed much wear on the bottom of my RBK 7k stick at all. I play on a sportcourt surface.

I tape all my blades and ended up giving up on anything else like the pads or sand paper things they sell. The pads gave me a sticky feeling on the stick which is good, but maybe just too much for my taste. I like to tape heel to toe and I rub it on the rink right when I get out over in the corners of the boards. It picks up the dust better and breaks in the tape so its not dragging. Tape gives you a better natural feel IMO.

i tape heel to toe every few times i go out on inline. I go through blades pretty badly. My reebok 7k is split in half and the 4k is cracked up pretty bad as well

Midway from the heel side to the toe side.

I've never noticed a "problem" with friction or anything. (always on Sport Court)

Don't really bother with anything if I try outdoor shooting. Might as well get a blade or stick that you expect to be trashed soon anyways. hah. I'm got an old Sher Wood wood blade and Mission shaft for my "outside" stick.

I do one line of tape on the bottom, only at the heel (wears most here for me), then tape the whole thing, overlaping more near the heel and less at the toe for a better feel when stick handling. I then add wax to the bottom to give the tape some protection
