thehomez 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I recently moved to Rochester, NY and start playing in a league in a few weeks at Thomas Creek. So, in the meantime, I'm looking to go to some Adult open hockey sessions but I can't really find any. I know ESL is running a few during the daytime mid-week but I was wondering if there are any that run at night or any weekend days? I'm going crazy cuz I haven't had the chance to play in quite a while! I just spent an hour searching and calling rinks but found nothing. I know its the summer but still I thought Roch was a hockey city! Any help would be appreciated. Also, when the websites say 'adult skate and shoot' does that mean that its an open hockey session? I'm assuming it does given that I called once and said it usually becomes an open hockey session and most of the sites don't have any scheduled open hockey's....Thanks guys! sabres48 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 I live in irondeqiout and this is down time, and it sucks!! usually TC keeps one sheet of ice all year and has skate n shoots but they decided to tear up all the ice this year. ESL did the same except they keep one sheet of ice but its not for skate and shoots. I jsut got a pair of X:60's and its like hell not being able to use them. What part of the ROC do you live in? Im assuming fairport/perinton

Sucks to hear its down time right now considering I just moved here and really wanna get out there and play, must be hard for you too with the new X60's! I'm kind of surprised there is all this down time and getting rid of the ice as I moved here from NJ and never had this problem. Any reason why they redo the ice here and shut down for most of the summer? For some reason a bunch of the rinks I called said they re-open July 11th...And I actually signed up for the summer league at TC. And I plan to sign up for an ESL team when that starts up in August. Have you ever played at TC? What do you think about it? I'm pretty pumped to play, just sucks the games are on Friday nights for the NHL league...Also, do the ESL and other 'skate n shoots' mean that they are really adult open hockey's? I called ESL and asked for open hockey sessions and they told me thats basically what a skate and shoot is. And I live in West Henrietta, so far so good...except for the whole no open hockey thing! Thanks in advance for the help
sabres48 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Yea open hockey/skate and shoot/drop in/pick up its all the same stuff. I actually just checked adn ESL has skate and shoots scattered throughout the month. Im trying to make it too one but i havent been feeling to well. TC doesnt pick back up till the 11th of next month like you said. Ive played club and highschool games at all rinks. Websters probably my favorite ice followed by lakeshore, well the east rink any ways. I guess the reason they redo the rinks is so when the season rolls around theres some respectable ice, though as youll find out from skate and shoots at esl, and even TC, all ice is not created equal (gotta be careful in the corners at ESL and TC the ice doesnt always meet the boards. Really really appreciate it. I did notice ESL's open's throughout the week but unfortunately none of them are during the weekend or any day that I can make it. It seems like most places around here open in mid to late July so I think I will just have to wait. Debating whether or not to do the hour hike to Buffalo as a few places there have some opens. And thanks for the info on the ice conditions at the various places. I hear the ice at webster is the best. I can't believe that the ice at ESL and TC doesn't meet the boards. I hate that. I've actually taken a semi bad fall from stepping into the space between the board and the ice. I assume that happens because their coolers aren't powerful enough to freeze the ice at that point. Thanks again and I hope you feel better and can attend one of the upcoming opens!!! sabres48 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2009 FINALLY MADE IT TOO ONE!! It was crazy packed but it was better than no ice. Your right they are all weekday mornings when most are working, and thus inconvinent. Full benches but it doesnt seem like your watiting long at all theyre all good guys and change pretty quick. And yes the boards not meeting has caused some very awkward incidents. I remeber when a kid got his stick logged in the gap and the other end in his stomache and did a compelte flip over his stick. Really excited to get out there again, been a while since I played ice. It was a good time but nearly half the other players were Junior players which were really really good. Can't wait to start up the season at Thomas Creek in a couple of weeks! And that story about the kid flipping over his stick is pretty nuts. Luckily I didn't notice or come near the gap around the boards at ESL, definitely not safe
