Heel vs mid curve

Recommended Posts

Heel curves take some getting used to. When I switched, everything went right (I'm a lefty). Once I got used to it, I loved it. I broke one the other day and used a mid curve after that. The only way I could describe it is that it felt like it had no "action" or control. It was strange moving back for an hour.

I think that a lot of it is personal preference, as others have stated.... or giving yourself the time to adjust.

Personally, I find that mid curves are best for shooting over the net (which I prefer) and heel curves are best for shooting wide (pulling it) by about 3 feet.

The best answer really is a preferance thing, however I do have experience with both. I started with a heel curve(Drury) and now i'm shooting with a mid curve(Sakic) I notice that with a heel curve the puck does lift a lot easier but it's harder to control and with a mid curve I have better control. Definitely like the Sakic better

IMO the heels give you more blade on the puck for control and the mids give more zip. I've been all over the place with curves but for the last 2 years have settled upon the mid-heel Mod/Fors/Zett/Malkins of the world. I found with a mid I tended to pull shots wide. With the heel it went too high. After so much experimenting I just went with the mild mid/heel and haven't looked back. For me it's also the lie that matters so much more than the curve itself.
