Players That Annoy the Crap Out of You and Other Things That Piss You Off

Recommended Posts

I have a guy on our beer league team that just annoys the crap out of me. I've nicknamed him Scotty Bowman because he sits on the bench and yells to the guys on the ice what they should do or tries to tell you when you come off what you should have done. Normally I don't mind comments or suggestions, but it tweaks me with this guy because he is a terrible player, can barely skate (backwards is out of the question) and has about as much grasp of the game as a mite. i try to shrug it off because it's not my "serious" game and is a fun night of hockey with teams put together by the league with all levels of players.

This guy is part of our "fab five". These are five players who have never played organized hockey until this session and can barely move. One is getting better than the others alot faster. One (Scotty B) barely can play and three are hopeless. The league put them on our team because we have a core of about 8 good players. What sucks is we rarely have all 8 good players show up so we end up putting 4 good players on D (the fab 5 can't skate backwards) leaving 2 good players to center the 5. I usually get stuck at center and it is like playing 3 v 5 the entire game.

One of these games Scotty B is going to say something in the 3rd period when I'm gassed and irritated and I will probably snap. At least we have fun, the core players have become friends and, believe it or not, we actually win games. I guess it could be worse...

How about just asking Scotty to chill out on the coaching and politely remind him he would do better to heed his own advise and concentrate on his own game.Sounds like you have a good team otherwise, maybe hes just really into this new sport (for him) and needs someone to say 'Hey,appreciate the advise but ,no thanks. play your own game'.

instead of getting annoyed why not try to help them improve while you're on their team?

as a new guy (i mostly keep my mouth shut) it kinda ticks me off to hear the more experienced guys whine about something myself or someone else relatively new doing wrong - no one is going to get better that way and it brings the entire mood of the game down. I'm not your scotty bowman though. i only open my mouth when the experienced guys who play D are below the face of circles or when they're forwards and they're all over the place (positionally) on the ice chasing the puck into another forwards zone so we've got 2 or 3 forwards in the left wing going after the same puck.

not complaining, just venting. he's been corrected a coulple of times. It can be pretty irritating when you just skated a hard shift covering more ice than you should (covering for them) and getting to the bench having some guy who doesn't have a clue tell you what you should be doing. Meanwhile you're sucking wind like it's going out of stile.

It would be different if he knew what he was doing. One thing i have always enjoyed about Tuesday hockey is helping guys learn how to play. This guy already thinks he knows it all.
