Skate Fit Question

Recommended Posts

Guys, I'm looking to get back into playing in a rec league (after about 5 years off) and I was hoping some of you could give me some ideas on new skates. Right now I have the Boss 08 and don't like them at all. I've tried but I just can't get used to the heel-pitch. I would go with heel lifts but the boot isn't the most comfortable to me either. My favorite skates of all time are the Nike Quest 1 with the Red Star E Frame. Here are a picture of mine:

I've skated in this for so long and they feel so perfect to me in fit and pitch and everything, but they are starting to get soft and I'm afraid they won't last through the season, especially if I start playing travel again. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what would fit the most like these (those of you who remember them at all). I had Wicked Lights and didn't like them (sold them to someone on here actually) and VSi teams and didn't like them. Both gave me horrible arch pain. Any ideas or should I just put some new wheels on these and skate til they come apart? RBK? 8090? One90? Custom is totally fine too, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to stick with a HiLo setup because I can't get used to the heel-pitch.

Thanks in advance guys.

you have to try on some skates and walk around, its not about the most expensive its about what feels right for your feet.

Try on 09 ice skates and put wheels on the ones that fit the best.

If you've tried Bauers, Mission, and Tour, then I'd do as Sprungster suggests and try on ice boots. Missions were too narrow through the forefoot for me, but the heel in Tours was too wide to be comfortable. I found that Easton ice boots fit my foot well and converted a pair of SE16's. I only wish that I would have done it a LOT sooner. If you really like the frame you have, you can just reuse it provided it's not dented and beat up.

Keep the suggestions coming guys. Thanks. I had a pair of Supreme 5000s that I liked but now feel very...primitive. They're probably just old, but they feel like clogs compared to the Nikes. Like my foot is just swimming in them even though they were the right size. I'll check all these out...any others?

Yeah, if you do go with Flexlite's definitely get the Pros. I haven't heard anything good about the regular 4.0's.

I was thinking about trying a pair, but I ended up getting a deal on 5k's that I couldn't pass up.
