Hockey players file lawsuits

Recommended Posts

yeah, about 6 guys from my team including myself got a call from that "Francis" guy telling us that on this trip we'd be guaranteed 4 games, and a good probability we would be offered pro contracts.

him and i exchanged emails, but in the end i couldn't afford the trip, plus me and my teammates thought it kind of sounded fishy

boy am i glad i didn't try to make it happen.

their website was down for a while, but apparently is now back up and they are preparing a statement by 5:00 pm tonight.

load of BS if you ask me man, scammed that many kids out of $3500

I don't think there are enough details to call them all douchebags for suing to get their money. Determining if it was a real scam would tell a lot.

They definitely were pretty retarded to drop that kind of cash on something like that without investigating to see how legit the operation was beforehand....but either way they got the shaft and deserve some type of reimbursement.

well the most suspicious part about it was that the second time i talked to "Francis" on the phone, he basically told me that when i made my decision to "make the cheque out to me, Francis"

and in the article, it says that the coach of the team had never met francis, didn't even know his last name...

but you're right GSH13, maybe they should have looked into it a little further, but possibly blinded by the potential that came with this trip, and they only had a short period of time to make the decision

No, I'm referring to the scammers as d'bags.

Yeah, they got shafted and I think they should get at least part of their money back. Of course, I also tend to think it's a shaft when hockey programs hold pay for "try-outs" knowing that the rosters are already decided upon, or there are only a couple of spots open.

The organizers appear to be scammers. However, I think some of the parents and kids should have done better due diligence here. Apparently, there were similar complaints before about the organizers. If you are good enough the scouts will come to you. Most kids who are good enough to play pro in Europe after their NCAA or Junior days don't need these bogus means to get there. I think there comes a time when some kids need to realize that they are not good enough and move on! I often see so many kids who have their head in the clouds.

Oh, Sorry.

The players still aren't the smartest ha. But I agree.

I think the article said these were 17 and 18 year old kids so not out of NCAA or Juniors yet, but if you were their age and someone came to you and offered you the opportunity don't you think you'd jump at the chance to play in front of a lot of scouts. I agree that they needed to do actually look into this a little bit instead of writing a check to a guy with only a first name, but if you were that age and it came down to paying 3 grand to get scouted and possibly getting a scholarship or pro contract where you were getting paid to play instead of paying 40 grand to pay for college to play, don't you think you'd at least consider it? But again I agree they definitely should have researched it more, 3 grand for a Euro trip and all that comes with it has one of those "too good to be true" type sounds to it.
