bruins winter classic jersey

I've ranted about that Bruins jersey before, Won't do it again. But honestly? Just pick a throwback. Don't make stuff up.

That jersey was white, only existed for one year and the side spokes had dates in them to celebrate an anniversary. The logo never existed, and the only time they ever used that comic B was on a white jersey for one year- the black which was their only other uniform that year had a big block B with no wheel.

If you watch the video, Cam Neely explains why they chose to use gold in the sweaters. I'm not sure what you mean by the logo has never existed though. It was used during their 25th anniversary.

I like the idea. They pieced together something unique by taking components of throwbacks. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

The logo HAS never existed. The one in the pic has dates in the spokes. it's not the same.

I have nothing against them having a cool jersey or anything like that. However, I'm a sticker for not making up history, whether it be sports or in political discussion. Mashups like this are to me, them trying to reinvent their history. It especially pisses me off because they don't have to- they have some kickass yellow jerseys they could just pull out. Stuff like this just annoys me because it's fake. It never existed.

And yeah, I wanted to see the 30's jerseys. Going back to the original color scheme and early history of the team would have been great. However, I've also said for a while now they need to bring back a yellow, but that's a job for the third jersey. The winter Classic jersey should be a straight up throwback like every other team has done so far.

And just because you don't share my thoughts on the issue does not mean you have to act like a 12 year old.

Oh, and allow me to cast another vote for "The bear head was an awful idea" camp.

On its own merits, the jersey looks good. I get the complaints about not using an existing jersey, and I think they're valid, but it doesn't really matter what any one of us thinks. The only thing that is going to determine the "success" of the jersey is sales, not opinions on the internet.

Having a discussion about the WC jersey correlates to me acting like a 12 year old? I guess I didn't get that memo...

I understand what you're saying regarding the dates in the spokes on the 25th anniversary crest, but I think it's an overstatement saying that it has absolutely never existed before. Modified? Yes, very slightly in my honest opinion. Completely different from anything in Boston's history? No.

As to the rest of the jersey, I think it's a great idea incorporating elements from their entire history rather than one specific period of time. I don't mind teams using throwbacks, but I'm happy Boston has done something different. Again, I think it's a little harsh to say everything on the jersey is fake.

It's clear you and I have completely different views, so I'm just going to agree to disagree and leave it at that...

PS: When I was 11 or 12 I thought that bear head jersey was the greatest thing ever, but in retrospect, it's lame as hell. ESPECIALLY the shoulder patches.

That comment was directed at zinc and his ilk, not at you.

And I'm not saying everything on the jersey is fake. I'm saying the jersey as a whole is fake.

As a jersey I don't object to it per say. As a Winter Classic jersey where straight throwbacks have been used, it's a lie. People are almost invariably going to think that's the jersey worn by Bobby Orr or whatever, and it's just not. As a third it's great, and much better then the lame rag they use now. But as a winter classic jersey, I don't like it.

I will say again though that it's still not as bad as what the flyers did. At least all the different elements in the Bruins jersey existed- the flyers pulled that nameplate out of thin air.
