Sharpening Question

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I just picked up my Flexlite 4.0's yesterday and had them sharpened as well. My question is that is there any special procedure when sharpening new blades for the very first time? I have never had any issue with this store for sharpening, in fact they are probably the best in town because they use the Maximum Edge System. The issue I'm having with the skates are that the inside edge (normal edge when pushing forward) is find plenty of grip. However my outside edges are a different story, they seem to skim the ice without really digging. Now i'm not putting this out of question either, this will be the first time i've skated on Bauer Tuuk lightspeed LS2's I come from Mission for the past 8 years, and Tacks previous to that. Could this be just readjusting new holder and runner?

So do you need to sharpen them twice, or anything like that. I don't radius my blades and I don't use a special hollow. I will reinforce that I've never had any issue with this sharpening place, but I also haven't had them sharpen out of the box new skates.

Any suggestions would be great.

Sounds like their machine was just slightly off when they sharpened it. Not a whole lot, but enough to make a difference.

For new skates I always do like 16 passes per skate than redress stone than do 8-10 or so again. Just go back and explain and ask for them to do it again.

Well, went back, talked with the lady who owns the shop about it. She was veyr happy that I came back right away. The first thing she said was that it was most likely because it was the first sharpening. She said she tries to take as little material off while still getting the proper sharpening. She re-sharpened them right awat, no question. I love that place. So helpful, nice etc. She even said that there was very little edge when she took a look at them. I'm gonna start look at radius' and hollows now that they can do them there. Best part about that place is that only two people touch their sharpening machine. Herself and her husband. I always know who is working on my skates.

Thanks for the help everyone.
