giving up on graf ultra g5's

Recommended Posts

So I'm going back to my LHS where I got these ultra g5's and I'm going to start over.

Issues:

Changing from low kor shift ones to these have been tough.

The g5's have too much volume from the heel on up to the top and I wobble in them from time to time. I can't tie the top lace or it feels like I'm in a cast.

They are pretty stiff for me 5'6 180+.

Heel slips unless I wear socks and I hate to wear socks in skates.

Geez, other than that I love them.

I'm thinking of trying on either the new flexlites 4.0 and the graf 605 ( less stiff hopefully around the ankle ).

Anything else I should be looking at? I've got wide duck feet.... damn duck feet.

I just went from my ten year old 727's to g5s. Its too early for me to render a verdict but I do recall my LHS employees stating that people with wide feet seem to favor other brands such as bauers.

Im a graf junkie. I love em.

My dad just went through the same thing. He had 705's (same fitting cat. as G5's) and found his heel to slip also, that's because the 705's are built with medium heel width and straight heel shape. He was just re-fitted at the LHS and he has a narrower heel than the 705 is built for. He has now ordered 735's built for a narrow heel width and pronounced heel shape, his order is custom because he wanted and extra eyelet and extra stiffness up the back heel of the skate. I suggest you take a look at the narrow heel categories of skates off of Graf's website (upper left) and perhaps get re-fitted at you LHS.
