Certified vs Uncertified Shields

Recommended Posts

Never really noticed the difference in the shields when watching the NHL, but while watching the IIHF Jr Championships I have noticed the difference of "certified" and the normal shields. Question I have, aside from the mounting differences is there another benefit of a "certified" shield? Seems the IIHF is split, and the nhl all seem to use uncertified

Certified visors are larger and protect more of your face, that's it.

It's a size and adjustment thing, the certified ones are bigger and cannot be adjusted on the face. They are secure like a full cage. While NON certified can be of any size really but can be slid up and out of the way via the 4 slots on the mounting.

Isn't 3-point mounting to prevent the visor from rotating up/down also a part of the requirements?

It was not mandatory a few years ago. Itech offered a certified visor that did not have a top attachment point that looked just like the RBE I but had holes instead of slots.
