hockeysc23 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Hey,Did a search but didn't see much in terms of correction this issue. I got the black lieutenant's off of hockeymonkey. I was trying to break them in without baking but the pain and bruising on my ankle right at the boney part was unbearable.I baked the skates at home using the inlinewarehouse youtube method. But even after a full season they still hurt everytime I lace them up. I have to lace them up very loose at the top and will have bruising and pain afterwards.I have used Bauer XXII's, SE17 ice skates, Mission Boss inlines, and other Mission skates but have never had a problem like this. What is the best course of action? Should I get the ankle area punched out? Would this help at all? Bake them again? Any and all helpful suggestions are appreciated. I would hate that I spent close to $250 on skates I cannot wear due to the pain.
stock07 1 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Dont know if you have tried this or not but, try not lacing the very top eyelet....I had this same problem and it worked for me...If that dosent work I would have them punched and see if that helps...

I am just wondering what my ankle is rubbing against that can cause that much pain. There is an area of gray foam amongst the black by the ankle pads. Maybe I am hitting the seam between the two? Or the ankle pack feels nice but my ankle bone pushes right through to the edge of the skates.Any idea how many times I can bake them? I was wondering if I could bake one more time to see if that goes away before having to resort to punching.
crispy92 14 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 I heard someone saying to bake those skates on 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes. I did that and after 3 skates and a couple blisters they are very comfortable. No doubt this voided the warranty but I dont think warranties are still in effect on sale or clearance item. Im not sure if this affected my boot in any way so take this idea with a grain of salt. other things you can do that are safer to the skate are rebake and put moleskin pads over the problem area or get them punched. fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted January 12, 2010 I believe that if you bake them at home it voids teh warranty anyways.hockeysc, have you tried isolating the areas that have the issues? Then maybe punching them out? I've got a pair of boss skates, and I've got a bone that sticks out below the ankle... that part ALWAYS gives me a problem. I took a clamp and golf ball, and put the golf ball in the area that was causing me pain. Basically I was trying to punch out the area that was causing me the discomfort. Tried them on this morning, and no pain.
Sav25 1 Report post Posted January 12, 2010 I tried skating on mine before baking them - ouch! Ankle worn to nothing in about 30 minutes - couldn't skate for a couple of weeks. Never seen anything like it.I baked mine in a fan assisted oven. I cant remember how long for, I followed a guide on here somewhere. It was at least 6+ minutes, probably more.I baked them, put my feet in and done them up nice a tight. While I had my feet in, i wiggled around a bit to flex them out a bit more.I waited until my feet were fully healed, then had another go. They were fine, although still took a couple of hours to fully wear them in.I wear skate socks (Globe) which helps slightly.Quality boot though, best i've had from Mission.Hope that helps
missionrh11 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2010 I had lieutenants and I had to get rid of them because of the pain. They were destroying my ankles even after baking and about 2 months of use (i skate approx 3-4 times a week). I couldn't take it anymore and I wound up getting the commander blacks. I also invested in some skate socks (easton synergy) and the combo is amazing. I have never had a blister or any discomfort!
JMart10 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Same problem, I just bought some '08 model Mission Boss skates and they were so painful jabbing into my ankles I couldn't really tie the skates, got them baked and they are significantly better, but still causing a bit of discomfort. Was thinking of getting them re-baked
