goaliemanshark 6 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 So my good friend (and teammate) is having quite a saga finding skates that fit. He started skating about a year ago and has never had a lesson. The only teaching he has gotten is from me, and i am a pretty horrible skater. But we tried to learn together and got decent enough for C level beer league play. His first skates where NBH one35's, he got these after skating once or twice on rental skates, whomever fit him did a horrible job (ill take some blame for not helping him too) as they were about one size too big. He had significant trouble turning but it was good enough for D league and he dealt with it. Once he found the money to get new skates he spent a month or two looking for the right fit. He decided to get some s12's from IW. After baking them he really liked them initially, he could skate much better too, turning was smoother, faster and easier for him. He said the extra stiffness really helped. These skates weren't perfect, he always had some pain around the outsides of his feet, he assumed this was from not having a wide enough boot. A few months later he developed a sharp pain on his left foot on the front of his ankle (near the top eyelet under the tongue). I suggested taping some foam or gel onto the spot that hurts to help with this. After a local sharks game we wandered into the LHS and saw a pair of Vapor XXXX on display, he has always liked the look of these skates and they were on clearance so he tried them on. They luckily had his size and he said they fit perfectly and they where much more comfortable for him then his s12s. After skating on these twice he decided that he was unable to stop correctly, but turning was amazing. They just dont feel right for him. Since he is so light (150 pounds) he doesn't think he can ever break them in correctly, and reading about bauer bumps has scared him. Since they are so stiff he wants to sell them and get something better then his s12's. The question is what should he get?The thing that confuses me is his eastons aren't wide enough for him but his vapors are, that just doesnt make sense. What do you guys think? Should i post pictures of his feet or what? Also how do you get rid of a hotspot under the tongue? Thanks for reading the long post!

If so, what size and width does it say he needs? What hollow is he using?
goaliemanshark 6 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 He is using 100/50 FBV, his XXXX's are 8.5 D and his s12's are 9.5 R. He says the length for both skates are just about perfect.
