New Skates (Vapor Question)

Recommended Posts

I am beginning training again for different camps this summer and need new skates now instead of waiting till later and then having to get used to them. I have S17's and was amazed with them when I got them in Aug but they have fallen apart and one of the skates composite under the boot is cracked. I was looking at the vapors because of the forward lean that they have compared to the s17's but don't know if they will be coming out with something soon.....

Also I wanted to know if there was a skate matching system that could take the type of player, amount of time on the ice, and how hard you skate and could tell you which skates should work best....

All help is greatly appreciated with this......

My suggestion is to try on the skate and see if they fit. That is the only way to go.

If you're going to be using your skates a lot, then it would be a good idea to buy a higher end boot assuming they fit your foot type.

I skate S12s and Ive tryed my brothers x40s and the aggressive boot is very different nothing like the heel lifts easton uses it takes some getting familiar with. It feels very weird not having the ankle lock when you push into a vapor. There is a lot of slight differences I wouldn't say avoid the vapor its a really good skate it feels pretty good once you get used to it but I still prefer the Stealths.. and I have to ask what godly level are you playing at to kill S17s lol Ive only been using mine 6 months but they are still like new but then again Ive played roller my whole life until about 6 months ago im sure we are on very different levels.

If Easton works for you, why not stick with it? I think they've beefed them up a bit. I've had a couple shop guys tell me that Easton is a "damn good skate if it fits you." Which is a far cry from what they said a couple years ago. Apparently they've made the skates a bit more durable, but I cannot fit into an Easton so word of mouth is all I have to go by.

I am training for AHL and ECHL camps so I guess you can say its gonna be pretty hard on skates. I don''t dislike the eastons. i just dont have that extra jump in my starts that i feel sitting so far back on my heels takes away. I was also looking into one 95's since they also have more heel on them.

if you're looking for more forward lean, definitely look into the x60's. had a pair of s12's and just couldn't get used to how far back on my heels i felt, even with the heel lifts. i feel much less clumsy in the x60's.

how are they compared to the eastons cut wise around the ankles and how are they turning tight pressuure point wise.... people always say try them on but that only goes so far, there is no way to see how they feel while peforming these specific things

when i compare them side by side, they look equal, but the x60's feel slightly lower cut, kinda weird. not really sure what you mean as far as pressure points, but i feel no pressure points with the x60's on tight turns...that is, if my tight turns actually qualify as 'tight' :(

stance-wise, the only skate i can compare them to are rbk 9k's, but with a less sloppy, less flat arch and a much stiffer boot.
