Ice/Inline Skate Conversion

Recommended Posts

I've been using Easton Air Vents for Roller the last few years (fantastic skates they are too), and they've still got plenty life in them, even though they're showing plenty wear.

I also own a not particularly expensive/flashy, but really comfortable, pair of CCM Externo ice skates. I don't play ice hockey often, but mainly use these for skating, recreation etc....

What I was wondering was - if the boots on my Eastons wear out, is it possible/easy to take the holders of my ice skates and convert them for roller? And would it be worth doing?

Just something I was thinking about the other day.... :)

Yeah it's entirely possible and worth doing so you don't have to buy new skates. I've done it a few times. It will most likely require a bit of drilling and then obviously re-rivetting. Got mine done for about £10, but i imagine this will vary a lot depending who does them.

As steve said, it's entirely possible and actually very common. Nothing fits me better than a CCM Tacks boot, so I always get inline chassis' mounted on them. You just have to make sure that the chassis is the correct size for the boot. If/when you bring them to a qualified shop tech to get them done, he'll tell you whether they will fit. The normal going rate is around $25 USD but usually if you bought the skates at the shop, they'll take care of you.
