First sports court experience- disaster....

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I don't play much roller anymore, but when I do play I am usually on the street (nice finished road) or on an outside rink that seems to be very hard rubber. I skate great on these surfaces, perfect grip, good turns, acceleration.

Well, I knew coming into the sports court game that softer wheels would be beneficial. So I went to the pro shop and unfortunately the choices were pretty low. I ended up w/ 4 Labeda Asphalt (84a)- bad, I know. 4 Labeda Gripper- 76a.

I went 2 and 2 on each skate. I really couldn't even push past 60% of my top skating or else I would slide out or be on the floor.

Do the softness of wheels make that big of a difference, or is the indoor court just something you need to get used to. I guess option 3 is that I suck, which could be the case as well. Overall, I was just disappointed.

I'm about 225 and I use the white Labeda Grippers all the way around and they work great. Not too soft and after a summer and a winter season of probably 30 total games no wear issues what so ever.

Yes, the softness makes a HUGE difference. You need indoor wheels and for your size I'd probably go with a 78A (or 76A). Personally I have some Labeda Dynasty II's which are awesome although they can be quite expensive. Other than those I like the Labeda Milleniums which are bit cheaper

I am around 210...Would you recommend all 4 wheels on each skate as low as 74a? Thanks

74a is definitely too soft for you. I think a 76a all around would suit you perfect. I prefer Rink Rat and Revision wheels personally.

Sorry to hijack here, but I am even bigger than him (about 250lbs) and will be skating on sport court for the first time in a month... I kept the Addictions (harder version, orange) from the Tabu's I bought thinking they would be OK for sport court... I know they have that goofy rating, but do you think that would be OK?

I normally play on a waxed wood surface (similar to a basketball court) and use a 84A Labeda Asphalt. I would like to go harder, but there is nothing available in the hockey wheel world!!!!

I play with numerous bigger guys who skate the Tabu's with the Addictions on indoor sport court. Havent heard a single complaint yet.

what config did you put the wheels in?

That's another issue and it is pretty laughable what I had to do out of necessity...But I have to run...Will post it later, thanks
